I am not a candidate for the USAFA, but I thought you all might be interested in reading a very disappointing story about the decline of the Air Force that appears in today's Wall Street Journal. Budget cuts appear to be decimating the Air Force. Hopefully the trend will be reversed. You could probably find the article on line.
 
Unfortunately, I heard much of the same about further downsizing from a 4 star who visited our Det. He said that because of streamlining and new technology the U.S. Air Force is the most lethal it's ever been, but that by fy2013-2015 we will likely become the smallest we've ever been since our creation.
 
It depends on how you measure things. The AF certainly can't drop the megatons that it used to on an hour notice.
Not that we desire that ability as much as we used to!
