Fly Fishing

Yes big time. I am president of Texas Women Fly Fishers. See my posts looking for fly fishing near West Point. I managed to squeeze some trout fishing in on my son's overnight visit there in the Fall.

I don't know if you are looking for young people or us parental types or anyone who loves to fly fish...

That’s awesome! Fly fishing for trout is my favorite. I’ve already spent a bunch of time on the internet/google maps scouting some areas within a hour and a half of West Point. I really want to spend a few days before R-Day trout fishing. There’s some great water up there. I’m from PA, so I also have a lot of good trout water within an hour and a half from my house. Also, I don’t care if it’s parents or younger people. I was just curious.

Nice I’m from Western PA. I’m hoping to make it to central PA a couple times this spring. I want to fish the Little J, Penns Creek, and Spring Creek.

I am guilty...although pretty new at the game. Took a lesson in Colorado a few years ago, and my wife kinda fell for it hook line and sinker. The next year we spent a few days at a lodge in Montana -- 3 days guided and a few more exploring on your own (Madison River, Yellowstone, Gallatin and something else I don't recall...). It was a great vacation, and set the bar pretty high for further fishing., We have done a number of day/weekend trips in and around our home, and a few days in Colorado last summer. I will have to admit ..DW is far better or effective than I ...a lot more patient than I am.

I fly fish every weekend from Thanksgiving through April in the southernmost trout fishery in the United States - a tailwater below Canyon Lake on the Guadalupe River near New Braunfels TX (close to both Austin and San Antonio). Harder to fish there in the spring/summer/fall due to the popularity of tubing the cold water plus the water temps get a little high sometimes stresses the fish a lot to catch them. Really getting into euronymphing right now.

Rest of the year we fish for bass and sunfish around central Texas. Never have time for fly tying because we fish year round in Texas and I want to spend my free time if I have any in the river.

I love euro nymphing. Think it’s the best way to consistently catch trout. Still figuring out a lot of stuff, but I’ve been catch fish pretty regularly. I love how versatile it is because I can also switch to a floating indicator for slower water. You should really get into fly tying. Adds a whole new element to fly fishing. It’s a great feeling catching fish on your own flies.
