I have recently read the disqualifications on food allergies on the DODMERB website.

D141.50 Allergic manifestations, history of anaphylaxis

History of anaphylactic allergic manifestations (including insect stings/bites, common foods, etc.)

I have eosinophilic esophogitis (allergic esophogitis) which for a brief explanation after I have a certain food (which has yet to be figured out) after a while my esophogus swells up and food gets stuck and i have to regurgitate back up. This can be treated with medication that I am taking. I am not anaphylaxic so does that mean I am ok? If I am not then would this be waiverable?

Thanks,
Matt

Based on the description you have given I would say a waiver is unlikely at this point in time.

Since you do not know which foods cause you problems, and the reactions that you do have are pretty severe (esophageal swelling), even though medications can control it, a waiver is highly unlikely.

Just know that I have been wrong in the past. If this is something that you want, by all means continue to pursue it. I would just make sure you have a back up plan as well.

Thank you,

If I found out what was causing this. And Say it was a food that wasn't common does this increase my chances or if it is a common food? Thanks

I think the primary issue here is going to be the symptoms that you experience with the allergic reactions. If whatever causes the allergic reactions is uncommon, then it may possibly assist in the waiver process, but again, the symptoms that you experience are pretty severe and I think that is what is going to cause the waiver authorities to deny your waiver request.

Again, I've been wrong in the past, and I'm sure I'll be wrong in the future, so do not let my thoughts stop you from trying!
