My daughter has received a NROTC scholarship but has been notified she is DQ'ed due to D226.40 Osteochondritis dissecans. She had foot surgery last summer to remove some cartilage and recovered 100% - varsity cross country, state championship competitor, MCM 10K, etc. What are the chances the Waiver Authority will approve her med status? What else can be submitted to support a favorable decision?

Fortunate news today in that the NROTC waiver was granted. As stated in other places throughout this forum, respond thoroughly, completely, and quickly to the DoDMERB review questions / requests for information. That way if you find yourself in a DQ/waiver review situation, you minimize the delays for further RFIs or an undesirable outcome. I think the concrete examples of her post-surgery/cleared-for-exercise activities helped the waiver authority make a favorable decision. Even if documented in the pre-physical questionnaire, the follow up response is the best opportunity to directly and concisely answer questions and relieve WA doubts regarding the condition under review.

Good luck to others out there in their quest to serve our nation in military service.
