Just got a Non-Select Letter, I honestly have no idea what I could have done differently. I had a 1510 SAT and 34 ACT with straight A’s all of high school, I’m a student body officer, 4 years varsity sports, theater, community service, congressional and senate nominations, the whole nine yards... my interviewer even said I was the “Ideal candidate for USAFA.” My congressional district had two recruited athletes and a November LOA so I’m guessing there just weren’t any spots left for me in my district. I guess I’ll try this all again next year...

My son has similar stats, class President, Captain of two varsity sports, “ideal candidate” from his interviewer as well. We’re equally disappointed.

Wow! Do you know if your slate was ranked? You have great stats! It's my assumption that athletes with LOAs aren't on a ranked slate or ranked further down. Sorry you didn't receive appointment, great attitude for next year!

Somebody tried to correct that a few weeks ago when this thread was started because nobody on this list has a Direct Appointment - it seemed to be a mistake by the poster(s) who were advised to change it to HS Applicant, College Re-Applicant, or whatever their actual situation was... not that they were seeking a Direct Appointment.

The process, the waiting and finally getting the non-select email has all been soo draining. But having found this group has been very helpful. This is such a grueling process and knowing there are others out there, especially those not selected, has given us some comfort today. Not a "misery enjoys company" but more of a "the right company helps heals misery." Thank you all for all your support! Here's to finding the open window now that the door has closed!
