For those of you still waiting...

No news here as of this morning. Still in it!

It's 6 am here in Colorado so admissions won't be open for a few more hours, good luck to all and let me know if you hear anything either way!

My ALO emailed me today saying that he contacted admissions on friday for the status of my application. He said that they told him they are still finalizing the class of 2018 and appointments will go out in April, even though they originally said March.

Best of luck to everyone still waiting!

Someone suggested I contact my MOC to see if there's been any movement on their slates. I have 2 nominations. I've seen one posted from my district. But I am not sure I'd bother my MOC with this inquiry.

I just contacted my MOC to ask if both of the appointments have gone out (I heard at least one did) and he said he'd inquire with the Academy and get back to me. Weird, aren't they supposed to know the status of appointments from their nominees?

Why only "both"? Could there not be more appointments from their slates?

We don't always know what slate a candidate has been assigned to. There is MOC, Presidential, Vice Presidential, 100 USAFA specific, LEAD, etc and others from what I recall. Nominations are necessary, but from what I recall, you are not necessarily slated to the MOC who nominated you. Thus even if you see someone who is accepted from your district, it doesn't mean that MOC's slate has been assigned. And there are times when a MOC does have more than one opening for a current year. Does that make sense?

That's kinda what I thought - thanks MombaBomba:thumb:

Each mob can have 5 cadets at an academy at a time...for each open spot 10 potential cadets are nominated. My congressman nominated 20 to usafa to fill 2 open slots... One has already been appointed and I haven't heard if the second has...
So people can be nominated off different slates? I thought you were always competing with your nomination source's other nominees?

From what I understood, you do compete against those on your MOC's slots for those slots. However, there are other slots to be assigned. Else how would they be able to have more cadets than MOC seats available? There is the national pool they use to fill up the rest of the open cadet seating.

ChristCorp posted most elegantly on this in another thread. I quote ChristCorp from 24th Dec 2012:
"If you don't receive an appointment from the slate you're on, you will then be put into the national pool. Once in the national pool, it doesn't matter there how many nominations you received. It's simply your name, application, and a composite score. This is where you are simply racked and stacked against all others in the national pool, and the academy will take the amount that they need to fill the class. In other words, they give out the mandatory appointments first; one from each MOC slate submitted. Then, the academy chooses how many of the Presidential, VP, ROTC, and other military related to give appointments to. (Not to exceed the maximum number allowed). Then finally, they will take the remainder they need to fill the class, from the national pool. And for what it's worth, NONE of the appointments that come from the national pool, count towards a senator or representative's maximum of 5 constituents at the academy"

Sorry, cant seem to do the whole link to the another post thing. I miss DOS!

Hope that helps!

Thank you USAFA83GradWife and congratulations to your DD. We know of one other appointee, one of my son's friends who goes to a different school. This is a helpful thread but we are very much tempering expectations at this point!

Totally understandable. All the kids I've mentioned are in the Scottsdale area which is relatively small compared to the size of the state. I'm honestly pulling for everyone on this board as well as DD's friends. :thumb: I never thought I could be so stressed out about other peoples' kids.

My mom emailed our MOC and got the following, which is helpful but doesn't say much more than what we already knew:
"I was told by USAFA officials that the offers of appointment are approved daily and the process can take up to May 1 to complete. The academy staff asked that we call after April 15 for a status check."

So hurry up and wait....

:band:

DS has until April 14th to accept USMA appt. I hope AFA can make a decision one way or the other on him before April 9th. ( That is the deadline he set )

Would a female with a 29 composite stand pretty low in the national pool? I would be surprised if all of us waiting are in the national pool already, I feel like not very many appointments have gone out...
