My sophomore son has a 3.8 GPA and is a Russian major. What are the chances of getting a three year scholarship? He is very active in AFROTC. Any information would be helpful.

He really needs to talk to his det. because they will be able to tell him his chances more than anyone here can. None of us how many ISS scholarships will be awarded this yr., and/or if his det will be offering campus scholarships. That is on top of how many will be applying for a scholarship.

It is all about the numbers, and the people that know what the numbers are looking like for FY13 are at his college.

Sorry that doesn't help you they way you were hoping, but at least he knows where he should look to find out the answers.

As Pima said, no one knows for sure how many ISS are available. More than likely your son, despite his 3.8 GPA, is farther back in line for a scholarship than a cadet who has a technical major. In my det. last year, an international studies major was passed up for a scholarship who had a 3.9, while 4 engineering majors and a nursing major all received scholarships. All 5 had GPA's marginally to significantly lower than her 3.9.

eboyd brings up a very good point, the major is going to matter. The AF needs language specialist, but I am not sure how badly they need specialist majoring in Russian compared to how nursing and EE are considered critically undermanned fields. SInce he is a sophomore (C200) did he apply last yr for an ISS or was he not in AFROTC last yr?
