Do moderators, or anyone else, have access to all private messages? Also, nearly everytime I hit the "back" button, I get sent back to a screen from several weeks ago.

I am unaware if I have access to PM's, simply because it's never occurred to me to look. Do you need me to, or are you worried that we might?

Not following your second point. However, I'm wondering if clearing your cookies and cache may help?

I'm afraid I'm not very good at this intraweb stuff, and the guy who CAN address it is.......busy........ until further notice.

When I am on the forum main index page, go to one of the threads, and then hit my browser "BacK" button to return to the main index page, I sometimes get an index page from several weeks ago. It is always the same page. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same problem.

USNA69,

I haven't had that problem at all. What browser are you using? What version is it? Does it ever happen when right click and select back, or is it only when you hit the back button? Also, if you have the forum as your home page, you may not be updating the cache that is stored on your computer. Something to try would be to delete your browser history and cookies. If you are using MS Internet Explorer, click on tools, then Internet Options, then delete browsing history and cookies.

Hope this info helps!!

Try clearing your cache and history and giving it another go.

As for the PM question, there is no access to PMs by anyone other than the user. They're saved in a non-accessible area. This feature is built into the design of VB.

If you are still concerned and want to confirm this, go to www.vbulletin.com and ask them.

I have inquired about it before because I was concerned as well.

search bots

What are the Yahoo and other search-bots looking for when they are searching this forum?

Thank you for the fine job you do!

They do what's called "crawling" the website. Basically they index pages and terms to store in their search database.

However, there's a lot more to it than that, because different algorithms are used to determine what the page is about. But, basically they're finding out what's on the page. However, they only see text, which is why our tags system is important because that highlights the most important words for spiders to find.

Yeah it is pretty cool - now get this. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me.
When I signed on at home this morning I saw this really cool banner of graduations and the Eagle.
Come to work, sign on and it is the old banner again - TN what gives??
(I am feeling computer inept!)

Empty your cache and then reload the page. I just had to do it too.

The original banner is RetNavyHM's, the one with graduation pictures is thanks to KaMiKaZi, and CAnderson197 has recently created one as well.

For some variety I'm going to change them every now and then, but I'd like to give props to the three people who have built banners for us. I really appreciate it and am glad you all do, too.

Yep I tried that - didn't work. Oh well, maybe it is our network here.

Thanks guys for your talent in creating the new banners, they do look pretty nifty! :thumb:

I haven't been able to see the banner for the past week or so. I was using the original forum skin so I tried changing my skin to one of the new ones, now I can see the banner.

Just A Mom, try a different forum skin and see if that works.

Actually rebooting my computer worked. I came in the next day and it was there. But you are right - with some skins you can't see it. It's all good now though.

I have some work to do on the other skins to get them set up for the banner. I apologize for the inconvenience.

I'll take care of that this weekend.
