Foundation Offer for Class of 2021

When practicing the "what if:then" drill with DS. IF you were lucky enough to be offered a Foundation scholarship THEN what school/s would you consider? "Anything but Kent" - wrong answer, dear boy. You can't cross a school off the list simply because the school is a crew rival.

I was impressed with Salisbury. Because the Crew coaches are the core faculty for Math, Science and English. I thought any one who wants to crew in their PG year this will be best school to go to, just based on this.

He is a regular old senior waiting it out on the island at the moment. Salisbury would be his first choice if lucky enough to be given a Foundation Scholarship. Oddly enough - also a crew rival - so I'm guessing that what you're saying might be his motivation. Racing Kent Apr 9 and Salisbury on the 16th - go figure!

Good luck to him. I hope he gets in to USNA rather than Foundation. But if not best wishes for foundation. But beware Salisbury is all male and Kent is coed, if that will influence any one's decision between the two good rival schools ;)

Thank you and best to you! We are keeping the faith. He has been at an all boys school for the last four years so that wouldn't be a major shock to his system but perhaps that info sheds some light on his thinking.

Thanks. My son has the foundation offer. But it looks like he will very likely take the NROTC route. I do not know for sure. As a parent I did due diligence and enquired about the various foundation schools for my information. But finally it is up to him to decide which way he wants to serve the country - NROTC or Foundation > USNA. The local university CO, is very much interested in him coming there and has been in constant touch with him which also seems to be influencing his decision. We are keeping our fingers crossed as to what he is going to decide. Still hoping that something positive may come from USNA for this year [<.000000000000000001% chance] :).

YES! DS has made it clear that he does not want or need another year of HS. We have had time to discuss the options thanks in large part to the info harvested here (good, bad, and suspect). I am sure everyone at my dinner table is quite tired of the "IF:THEN" drill. I am a planner so waiting is not my strong suit. I would very clearly fail at military life. However, having had the conversations I have learned that I am more than happy to cut the cord. This kid is ready to go. Ready to make the call. I am happy with whatever God's plan is.

Marion Military Institute is a 'real' college if by 'real' you mean that cadets earn college credit. Ds is finishing up a self prep year there. It was not a repeat of high school classes, any more than any other college would be.

Kent is also in the middle of nowhere. I had a football game there this past fall, and boy did we have to go deep into the backwoods of Connecticut to get there. Salisbury, Kent, NMH, and Avon will give your son the very typical New England boarding school experience in addition to preparing him for USNA.

This time last year he came home from a crew race at Kent completely awestruck by the facilities which are in stark contrast with the adequate but humble accommodations that his team shares with several other crews in this area. Sounded pretty swish to me so I wondered why he would knee jerk balk at it. I'm a princess and he wants to live on a boat for a living. There ya go!
