Look pal, the Aluminums of Duke TiP are the people with the hats made from Reynolds Wrap. They are very ahead of their time and it's a very exclusive club. They sing that old George M. Cohan classic "Over There !" as part of their initiation.

;)

Okay. Just having a little fun with the post from @wjfpc1. Possibly my comic timing was a bit off.
The misspelled words in question were alumnus (in lieu of "aluminums") and their (in lieu of "there") in your original post.

I rather liked “Aluminums.” It emerged as an interesting combo of “alumni/nus/na” and a whiff of “luminous” and an undertone of “nummmmm.”

Those aluminums must be very proud, and there parents too.

(I believe along with prestige and a monetary award, winners also get a free download of “All Thumbs: The Layman’s Guide to Fast, Accurate Typing on Mobile Devices.” 😉)

+5 points for use of 'i lieu of'. Good job! :D

Does anyone know if Naval Academy athletes are scholarly or are they just "average" with their studies

You can look at the class profile from previous years (think Capt MJ posted it). You cannot get into the academy based solely on your athleticism. Do not make any assumptions about atheltes not being brainiacs. I believe one of last year's football starters branched med school, sooooooooo. Any candidate who might need a little buffering up on academics, who the Academy saw significant promise in, might be a great candidate for NAPS.
