From the Alumni about Greene

2. Commander Mund is a longtime academy staffer. He was a Company Officer in the early 90's and became the Director of Training or some such title shortly thereafter.

I have no further comments beyond the above statement of facts. I have strong suspicions but they are only suspicions and it would be inappropriate to post them on an open forum.

At this point in the saga, here are my questions, based on the posted "TIMELINE OF EVENTS":

1) Who's Commander Mund? What's his role? He never is mentioned apart from being the host home for the Gotay fratting event. ...

From the current USMMA Catalog at the USMMA.EDU website:

CDR David L. Mund, USMS (1990)
Regimental and Training Officer
B.A., Virginia Military Institute Military: MAJ, USAR (Ret.)

Commander Mund is on the Commandant's staff at USMMA.

2) Is the author of the "anonymous hate letter" known - even if not revealed to the larger constituency? Has anyone seen it? How credible were the accusations contained therein?

Yes. Many of the academic staff and some of the students know who wrote the letter.

LaHood also spoke at lunch yesterday. He pledged to "...make sure the cadets in the brigade have the same facilities as Annapolis, West Point, and Air Force" He also gave the same old about "making the academy of the Crown Jewel" and that he would find a great super.

Brigade? Uh, I believe that KP has a regiment. Two or more regiments make up a brigade, ala USMA, USNA, USAFA. . . . . Oh, I guess that there are greater problems than that. Although one has to admit that a statement like that sounds like a politician making a campaign promise.

LaHood hasn't been with DOT long enough to remember the old Crown Jewel at DOT....that left in 2003.

As much as I make fun of CGA's rivals at USMMA, I really feel for the students and alumni. This is a terrible situation for all involved. Don't like seeing this happen to a fellow service academy.

Yes, I quoted correctly. The DOT calls KP a "Brigade." They think KP has cadets too, which I guess is kinda sorta true when out at sea, but not really.

Gay Annapolis Graduate in Tuition Dispute

A 1987 graduate of the United States Naval Academy who says he was forced to quit the Navy because of his homosexuality is refusing demands that he pay for his education.

The Navy wants the academy graduate, Orlando Gotay, to pay $22,949 in tuition because he resigned before completing the five years of service required of graduates. Mr. Gotay, who lives in San Francisco, told The Annapolis Capital last week that he would not pay because the Navy put pressure on him to get out early.

The 26-year-old former officer was serving aboard the guided missile cruiser Belknap, the flagship of the Sixth Fleet, when he learned in June 1989 that he was under investigation for homosexuality.

The inquiry did not prove any sexual misconduct, although Mr. Gotay acknowledges that he is homosexual. The armed forces prohibit homosexuals from military service.

Thank You NYBEAR......without this little piece of info I was lost....like others the picture seems to be coming in to focus a little better now.....

Keep digging folks and the picture will become even clearer. Hopefully. Again, I think Adm Greene may want to think about a whistle blower lawsuit. IF the facts ever do come to light I am sure hoping that my little research into the matter is way off course.

Might want to look a bit further up the "food chain" than JUST the DOT folks.

Sent an email to Secty LaHood yesterday...obviously, no reply as yet, and don't really expect one.

Just sayin.....

Beyond: actually yes really, the laws which authroized and brought USMMA into existiance and are really still the Academy's legislative basis authorized the insititution to train a "Corps of Cadets." My understanding is that's also why trainees/students at the State maritime Academies are called cadets and why when you are on a ship for sea year you/we are cadets...

In any case, I think as noted their are bigger things to worry about whether Secratary LaHood refers to the students at USMMA as Midshipmen or Cadets and/or talks of a Regiment or Brigade let's just be glad he wasn't using the term "Platoon" or "Company" when referring to the collective mass of students as then we might have a whole other set of things to speculate/worry about...

Given that while in Congress then Republican Congressman Ray LaHood served on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee from 1995 until 2000, I wouldn't bet on that one.

Probably just search the list using last name "Matsuda" but is anyone really surprised that a Presidential Appointee has been to the Whitehouse and has friends there? Especially one who is a former Senate Staffer when both POTUS and the VP are former members of the US Senate?

CONGRESS? Even less reason for him to have any idea at all. At least as a secretary he has some skin to protect.

From ds:

The academy staff and admin had a meeting w/ Sec LaHood yesterday afternoon. My xxxxxx teacher informed us that anytime a question about Admiral Greene was asked, LaHood pulled a classic politician move. His answer would repeatedly be that we should "start looking to the future and not towards the past."

Ignore the past and we are destined to repeat it......damn this stinks. I love this country and would die for it and it's founding principles....have the honorable discharge to prove it...........The USMMA, in 2011, deserves better than this, the midshipman of the current student body deserve better than this, the alum that have already given and continue to give back deserve better than this......better stop before I get censored.
