Hey all,
I am sure someone has asked this before, but I looked on the forum and couldn't find an answer! If you get the fully qualified letter and a nomination are you in...? My gut tells me no, but I was just wondering. Why does West Point send out the fully qualified letters? Mine said I was fully qualified but they hadn't received a nomination, but I found out the next day I was nominated and it showed up on my portal a day or two after. Should I be stalking the mailman or not even worrying about hearing back anytime soon?

Thanks!

I'm where you are buddy. It doesn't mean we're in, but now our status is "admissible" which means an appointment CAN be made. Its whether or not West Point wants to give us that appointment. The good news is that usually people who make it this far, usually around 2000 people, ~70% are offered appointments. Don't put your hopes into that statistic though.

Assuming your nom is a MOC nom, you're in if:
1) you have a LOA
2) you are the Principal on a Principal nom slate
3) you have the highest WCS on a competitive slate

If you are not any of the above, then you could go on the NWL where you will be racked and stacked according to WCS.
OR WP may be waiting to see what other noms you get. Many MOCs have not turned in their slates. They have until Jan 31 to do so.
Who knows, you may be the vacancy winner on another MOC's slate. This is one of the reasons why you are strongly urged to apply to all noms qualified for. After Jan 31, all fully qualified candidates who did not win a MOC vacancy will go on the NWL.

The 'fully qualified' letter means that except for the nom, you have met all the requirements for an an appointment. IOW, you are qualified academically, physically (CFA) and medically (DoDMERB)

Buff, if I may ask, how long does it normally take to hear back from West Point if you're on the NWS? I received my Senator's nomination on the 12th, and my representative's on the 18th.

I can't really give you an answer for that. I'm sure as soon as WP knows that you are on the NWL they will tell you. In your case, they may not know that yet. Seeing as you received a nom on the 18th, your file MAY be going before the admissions committee today. OR they MAY be waiting to see if you are on your other Senator's slate. A lot depends on what kind of slates your MOC's submitted - competitive or principal. There are so many variables.

I know this part of the application process is the hardest. The wait is terrible. But you are in a good place. You are fully qualified with 2 noms. All the pieces are there for an appointment. You may know this week or you may not know until April. Prepare yourself to not know until April and if you hear sooner, then all the sweeter.

Good luck and don't let the unknown spoil your Christmas!!

Thanks for the replies!

Will the admissions board be meeting today even though it's so close to Christmas? During their meetings do they decide if people get appointments, then do they send them out today? Obviously it takes a few days to mail appointments...
Ah the wait is killing me but I'm trying my best to be patient!

Will the admissions board be meeting today even though it's so close to Christmas? Yes - they are definitely meeting today.

During their meetings do they decide if people get appointments, Yes, the names submitted by the RC are voted on.

then do they send them out today? Probably not today. They will notify your MOC though. IF your MOC chooses not to give you the news personally, you MAY find out from your MALO/FFR or you will find out when you get the Appointment folder in the mail. I think the intention is that if you are voted to receive an appointnment today, you will know by Christmas.

Obviously it takes a few days to mail appointments...
Ah the wait is killing me but I'm trying my best to be patient! I know! The wait is terrible. But TRY to enjoy your Christmas!

My theory is that whether or not the wait kills me, I'll still be waiting. Letting it run on top of your Christmas wont change anything haha.
good luck!

I just found out I was the principal nom for my congressman (WA-01)
I can't stop crying I am so happy!!!!!!!!!!
I think a whole new set of tears will come when i get the BFE

Good luck to all, it's so worth the wait!
