Thank you!Hello! I attended FLC back when I was in highschool which helped solidify my decision to attend Norwich. While you might not get to see the Corps of Cadets or chat with the ROTC cadre you get to experience alot of other things. The FLC cadre are upperclassmen and essentially treat FLC like a mini-rookdom where they are strict, teach you how to march/customs & courtesies, and get you familiar with the campus/area and what it has to offer. You also get a 5k scholarship I believe for attending. Bottom line: If you have the option to attend and don't have other summer obligations, definitely give it a shot. I went and loved it!
I attended FLC Session 2 this past summer. I agree 100% with your assessment of the camp. It's basicly an into to ROTC rookdom... some schools have open houses where you stay overnight, I have done these at VT and VMI, FLC is NOT that. FLC is full on rook experience, and most importantly they teach you basic leadership skills. FLC is truly a LEADERSHIP experience that will enhance your son's resume when it comes to his applications. One of the MOST important part of your son's applications for SA or ROTC Scholarship or SMC admissions is his leadership experience. Besides a great intro to the rigors of ROTC, this camp is also another check mark in his leadership experience. When I was there, we had campers from as far away as California and Washington. Lastly, should your son decide to attend Norwich, his attendance to FLC automatically qualifies him for $2000 per year for all 4 years off any part of his tuition & fees ($8000 total value).Hello!
