FY15 Army Accessions Board Results

Could someone please help me understand what my performance would need to be in order to branch into MI, without a detail, in the Army Reserve?

@ConsulSeneca , you really need to shoot for the absolute best you can. Every cadet I know who got MI without branch detail had a 3.65 or better GPA, 300 APFT, E at LDAC, DMG, and very involved in their ROTC program as well as extracurriculars. The three people from my LDAC platoon who received MI with no detail were some of the best people I've ever met, and had the stats to show it.

Now that times are changing with accessions, LDAC is obviously no longer a thing. Aside from GPA and APFT, you really need to focus on the testing aspect of the OML now, as well as having the extra points for public speaking and published writing.

Another thing- are you majoring in a technical/science/math/engineering field? Without certain majors now, the max you can get on your OML is 96... so you're already 4 points behind the STEM cadets. If you're majoring in something else, find a way to make up for it elsewhere.

fgr0001-your post is correct for a cadet pursuing Active Duty/Reserve/NG. However, the 'bar' and criteria is likely different in pursuit of a Reserve MI commission than AD without branch detail.

ConsulSeneca - Find a Cadre member that is familiar with the local reserve units. Seek their counsel. If you don't intend to live longer term where you go to school find reserve units with MI company grade positions near where you intend to live. Communicate with their S1. When you are ready to submit your accessions packet (late MSIII, early MSIV?) for a Reserve slot follow your cadres guidance for submitting a request for the specific Reserve Unit and 'position'.

Good Luck

Just like in Cub scouts...do your best....then let the chips fall where they may.

Woooops, didn't read the reserve part. Apologies :)

Unfortunately, it is very difficult to interview for careers in a different city, and even more so when you tell them that 13 weeks after graduation, you will be gone for four months. He may have to settle for a summer job until he gets back from BOLC. For now, he is just trying to stay focused and get to class while ROTC and his USAR unit have forgotten he is still a student for three more months./QUOTE]

This is my long-term concern too. Son's "Plan B" would be to go to grad/law school but he can't really start those either if he is going to have to take a leave to go to BOLC at some unknown time in the future. He's only a MS2 so this is not a pressing issue yet but I am keeping my eyes and ears open for options.

DD branched AD MI with no branch detail in 2014. Her stats were in line with what was posted above except she had an 'S' at LDAC and while she had extracurriculars, she didn't have AROTC extracurriculars.

However, the process of branch selection is very different for Reserves - it's a matter of finding a unit with an opening that you can be slotted into. Several of the other 2014 graduates in DD's battalion found MI slots in the reserves though that would not have been their first choice had they gotten AD. Two of the three were forced reserves - not sure about the other one. Two of them started BOLC when she was close to finishing so they overlapped a bit.

The Army Roller Coaster continues!!!
Yesterday was the last day of classes...The ROTC ball was last night. A few hours ago my son got a call from his batallion. Is he interested in an AD slot for MP? If there is a speed limit for bicycles, I'm sure he broke it... There were a few branches he would have turned down...There were many that would have him taking a day to ponder...but his #1 Branch? A no brainer.
His mid August BOLC is gone. The $10K signing bonus is gone...no problem...
His last USAR drill is this weekend. Finals are Monday and Tuesday (yeah, how much prep is going to be done now?)...

5 1/2 months after accessions results were posted...I have the happiest cadet in the Country!

Sent you a PM

Oh, and tell your son to buy a Lotto ticket today, what great news.

Ha! I replied to your PM before I read this...That is what he said when he called..."Mom, I won the Army lottery!"

It always baffles me that people seek MS as their first choice. While I can see the latter portion of the 70X MAYBE being lucrative to the civvy world the majority of a MS officers daily life is rather mundane compared to the healthcare providers around them.

Here are the results of the 2015 Accession Board

http://www.scribd.com/doc/256715342/FY15-Army-Accessions-Board-Release

I found a couple things interesting.

Only 46 cadets were selected from below the AD cutoff for the Special Branching Program.
105 SMC cadets were below the AD cutoff line that made Active Duty.

78% of the cadets that wanted Active received Active Duty.

While the total number selected for AD looks to be lower then last year, it seems that more cadets chose Reserves or NG this year resulting in a higher percentage of cadets getting AD that requested AD.

It shows how tough it is getting to make that AD line. And also now that not all nurses are going AD like in the past. 22% not making AD doesn't sound like a huge percentage, but that's a big chunk of people that now have to alter their future plans.

Nurses not getting AD doesn't hamper them like it does any other new 2LT who failed to get AD. I had a job a week after my active orders ended making what an O-3 makes. One could argue the civvy world is a better place to get experience for a nurse as the military doesn't really have the "Acuity" of most hospitals on the outside.

But it is concerning for the amount of young college grads needing to scramble for jobs.

My daughter went AD as a nurse and is stationed at Fort Sam Houston. Their staffing is VERY low at the moment and indicates the Army is not recruiting enough nurse. As far as getting an RN job in the civilian world, that all depends on where you live and what you're willing to do. Where I live in Southern California, it's not easy to get a job with less than (1) year of experience. Once you do get that job though, the pay is MUCH higher than any O-3 is making. I have (3) friends whose wives are nurses and they are all making over $125K. Conversely, my daughter is only a 2nd LT and with her housing pay is making pretty much what private sector nurses in San Antonio are making.

I branched MS so I could become a 72D because I wanted to use my degree in the military. I assumed most people want to branch MS because there's a specific AOC they're trying to reach and it's easier to move around if you're in the branch.

Spoke to DS today. AROTC MS IV, commissioning next Friday. He told me that everyone in his battalion who requested AD and did not get it originally, was offered it this past week. He also said that certain BOLC dates were moved up?

Best of luck to your DS!
