Papa, we are from GA, 6th district.
Congratulations on your appointment!
My son has an LOA and noms from both Senator Chambliss and Senator Isakson for USNA. Unfortunately, his DoDMERB status (vision) is currently, "waiver denied".
My son, also has a nom to USMA from Congressman Tom Price (he only made the decision to apply to USMA after senator applications closed and was told he couldn't add USMA as a second option, but was able to change it to be his first choice with the congressman, as his deadline hadn't passed), but no news from USMA admissions yet. His application was completed in late November, and his Regional Director has sent him some encouraging emails. I read on the College Confidential website that the USMA admissions board are only meeting next Tuesday for the first time in many weeks - so the waiting game continues.
The reason my son decided to apply to USMA, came about because he really wants to serve and the disciplined life at a service academy really appeals to him (he loved his NASS experience, but USNA is now looking unlikely). He has to go for further vision tests before we hear his DoDMERB status for USMA (they are not as strict with vision as USNA, but there are a couple of other questions - Yes, we have been in contact with Larry Mullen), and then we will decide if he should file a rebuttal against his waiver denial at USNA.
My son has been accepted into GA Tech and he is a semi-finalist for the Presidential scholarship. He has his interview next week and it will be interesting to hear how that goes compared to the nom. interviews. We believe that it is also incredibly competitive and are pleased that at least he has something else exciting to focus on, in the meantime.
Regardless, of the outcome, we are at peace (on most days!) that what is meant to be, will be.
