This could probably go in any of the services' forums as I can only assume it doesn't vary that much between them.

I know they are looking for all round candidates but are there some admission measurements that carry considerably more weight than others? For example is academic qualification much more important than leadership or physical fitness and how important are the SAT or ACT scores in the process of qualifying academically?

I know there is general info on this stuff on the respective websites but thought I would post to see if I could get some insight on at least an order of importance in the admission processes.

like you said

Like you said, they are all pretty similar. I'm fairly confident all the SA's provide common weights to all the aspects of admissions (academics, athletics, ECs, etc.). Hope this helps.

IMO, I'd say that the gpa and the test scores are more important than leadership/physical aptitude. I heard from my ALO that it's roughly 60% academics, 30% leadership/activities, and 10% CFA. And the interview goes somewhere in between the second and the third I assume. I'm not sure if this is accurate, but it sounds about right to me.
But of course, one of these areas could make up for another if you excel at a specific quality.

Can't speak for the other academies, but if you click on the link below my signature, you will see the air force academy brochure. It shows:

60% academics composite: SAT/ACT, GPA, etc...
20% Admissions Panel: Faculty and staff review, CFA, ALO interview, Writing sample, etc...
20% Extra Curricular Composite: athletics, leadership, clubs, community service, work experience, etc...

Hope this helps. Mike.....

Thanks guys, all very helpful. I'm a proud American living in Australia so its sort of difficult to get some of the brochures and other info and I don't want my relatives back over there to be running around too much on my regard so any info I can get from great sites like this is really appreciated.

Click on the link below my signature. It's the 2008-2009 brochure, but pretty much all the information is identical to this year. It will answer many of the HOW's and WHY's of the air force academy. Best of luck. Mike....
