General Questions for 2021

I am going to show my ignorance--but why is a refrigerator needed if you are jewish? Since DS is catholic, can he ask one to keep the wine cool. bwahahahaha

There is a reason KP doesn't have a tolerance clause. Beyonds reference to ostracization would most definitely apply to anyone misusing the honor system.

What is a 'tolerance clause'? Is it that a midshipman will not tolerate any knowledge of infractions/lying/cheating etc?

"A midshipman will not lie, cheat or steal" vs. "A midshipman will not lie, cheat or steal nor tolerate those who do"

A tolerance clause would force M/N A to turn in M/N B or be subject to their own honor violation.

And, companies are being shuffled as well. I don't understand why there is no tolerate clause. It seems the tolerate clause would address the sash issue dot speaks of. My bet, based on absolutely no info, is that they change it to include the tolerate clause. But, I am wrong on so many occasions, this is probably just another one of those times.
The Honor System is not related to general behavior no matter how dis-honorable it might be. The Honor System is not the appropriate forum for SASH issues.

A quick question on uniform change:

I read that the Navy is implementing a new unisex combination cover, switching from the bucket-style dress cover for females to a cover similar to what the males currently wear. The bucket-style covers will soon be discontinued and new covers will be mandatory by Oct. 2018.
Will this change also take effect within USMMA?

Maybe ... Maybe not.

USMMA mostly copies Navy Uniform Regulations, but does not "follow" them. USMMA will have to take that question up of their own choice ... or not.

It may well become an issue of supply, demand and pricing. The cost for the bucket cover will go up per unit, because big Navy will no longer be ordering them. With demand dropping, the bucket will go up in acquisition price, and I predict a switch down the road. This assumes the USN and USMMA buckets are from the same manufacturer.

There was a lot of history to those buckets. The tab in the back was a salute to a jack tar's pigtail. Sigh. I have stayed out of this uniform issue. I do like the new choker-style whites for Navy women.

Ah, thank you. I thought that was the full USMMA honor code. Interesting it is not included.

I bet they will make the switch, they didn't have enough female bucket covers this year for the class of 2020. At least we don't have to wear combo covers that much, the uniform of the day is always khaki with garrison covers.

Hello,

Do you know if we get overnight leave on parent's weekend? If so, ours is from like Sept. 1-4, so that would be three nights, how many nights will we be allowed to have overnight leave?

The Citadel's honor code is, 'a cadet does not lie, cheat, or steal, nor tolerate those who do'.

Plus as a bonus, there is another separate honor code violation for 'quibbling'.

(1) Quibbling is the use of ambiguous or vague language to evade a point at issue. Quibbling will be considered and treated as a false official statement.

The idea behind not tolerating honor code violations is applicable to the military and business.

Example: If you knew a fellow officer lied about xyz situation and you did nothing about it; it could cause major problems such as injury, death, etc.

teddybear, acceptance/parents weekend 2016 was different than it will be in 2017. In 2016, Plebes got Saturday night leave for acceptance. For parents I think they also had one day leave only, Sunday night, but had liberty on campus in that they did not have to do all of the normal plebe things. I think one of the weekends was the only time you could go into the barracks, and, that you could eat in Delano on one of those weekends. Sorry, but they are as much a blur to us after this long than they are for DS. But Pizza in land hall with your plebe is a good time. You will see, as the date gets closer, what the rules will be. Also, beware, the rules will change. and just because you think there will be a two day leave doesn't mean there will be a two day leave. Whatever happens, it is a must go weekend, because your plebe will need 1) to get off campus and sleep, and 2) see you for encouragement.

Anyone can eat in Delano anytime, as long as they pay the contractor for their meal. Some employees do sometimes. Parents Weekend is almost the same every year. Friday night, you get to hang out with your family on campus. Then, we have a parade on Saturday, and you have liberty from after that parade until class rates on Monday night (1800). Acceptance weekend is only one night, similar set up.

Plebe life is going to get better though, there is no more CTO position, (company training officer), there's also no RTOA. Those are two of the main positions that punish plebes. The administration says that we shouldn't make plebes' lives suck for no reason. So it'll be a better time.

I understand Parents Weekend and Acceptance Weekend are back to being combined this year. And, we have been told there are events beginning Friday morning at 0730. However, I believe that it is not cast in stone until the 'official' schedule comes out. :)

Yes, 0720 is morning colors, when the flag goes up and we salute it and go back inside. This will be my third parents' weekend/acceptance day, it's the same thing every year. You can attend classes with your kid on that Friday though, its kind of fun to see what the plebes go through on a daily basis, so I would recommend that. Classes start at 0745, but you don't have to attend the whole day of classes with him, I would personally show up after lunch, so that you can hang out with him in the afternoon but don't have the annoyance of being on campus all day.

The USMMA campus truly is unique in which you can see different people from each armed forces walking around. On the Indoc pictures from past years, I think I saw a gunnery sergeant as the drill instructor (I could be wrong about the title, but he was wearing a different uniform)

Because of this, is it necessary for the midshipmen to know the different ranks and insignias of each branch?
How would we know how to properly address the service members currently on campus?

No you don't have to know all of the ranks for all of the services. You just address the drill instructors as drill instructor and gunnery sergeant and gunnery sergeant. You will find out who these people are. Otherwise, you just have to know who is or isn't an officer and if you need to salute them or not. It comes with time, but its pretty easy.

Good to know! We are arriving in town Thursday night so we can enjoy the full experience. Not sure if we will be be coming every Parents Weekend as we live quite far, but making the most of this one!
