Getting a Jr. ROTC at my school

Does anyone know how I should go about trying to get a Jr. ROTC at my school, and if it is worth the time trying to form one.

What grade are you in? I can't imagine this can be done overnight.

Not going to happen if you live in San Francisco...
 
Good news I do not live in CA and I am in 10th grade.
 
I really don't know a whole lot about JROTC. It seems to me it would be expensive. From Wikipedia: "some cities have to pay as much as $136,000 annually per unit to finance their JROTC programs."

Have you looked into Civil Air Patrol? If there isn't a unit nearby, I'm sure it would be cheaper and easier to start.
 
Okay, thank you. I was looking at Civil Air Patrol, and found the American Cadet Alliance. To me it seems to be similar, but more for the Army, Navy, and Marines. Although it does say soon it will only be Army. Does anyone know about this?

Hi!

If you're in California; you can consider the California Cadet Corps...it's sponsored by the CA ANG. Otherwise I would DEFINITELY recommend CAP!!

It is not about anything else than dollars and cents. Many principals already are faced with budget cuts and overcrowding. Also the school does not determine the curiculumn that is offered the school board does. You need to petition the board for JROTC. I highly doubt with the economy in the shape that it is currently in that any board could support it, too many parents would flip over it...again for financial reasons. The school would be paying another salary for a small amt of students compared to hiring another english, math or science teacher.

Haha, this was 4 and 3 years ago I asked. He claimed lack of funds to be the problem, but he might have been pushing me away. He is no longer principal, now we have an ex-army Gulf War vet :thumb:
