Hello to all :) I will be attending a 4 year university as a transfer student entering my junior year in the fall of this year. I signed up for a mls 101 class as the army officer instructed but have gotten no further details. Does just signing up and attending the class grant me the scholarship? How do I know if I will get it or not?

Thanks in advance!

No, sorry to say, that's not how you get a scholarship. Assuming you're speaking of AROTC, It sounds like the instructor may not have been clear that you are a junior.

Typically, you take MS1 classes your freshman year and MSII classes sophomore. If you have missed both those years, and the ROTC unit intends to offer you a contract, then you would attend CIET training this summer, before showing up in the fall to begin your MSIII year. Getting "contracted" is the only way to progress from your junior year and get a commission.

All of this is separate from receiving a scholarship. IF your battalion has money to award, and IF you are the best candidate, they may be in a position to give you a scholarship. Keep in mind, you'd be competing against kids who've been in the program for 1-2 years already and have proven themselves.

I think you need to have another conversation with the recruiting officer in your program, and make sure everyone is on the same page. Assuming you will not be getting a scholarship for this fall, you need to be clear on how you intend to pay for school as well.

Good luck, and feel free to ask if you have other questions.

If you have no prior military service, and you are joining ROTC as Junior (only 4 semester remaining) then you are considered an Alternate Entry Option (AEO) Cadet and are not eligible to receive a scholarship. ROTC is divided into two courses: the Basic Course (Freshman and Sophomore) and Advanced Course (Junior and Senior). If you enter the Advanced Course without Basic Course credit then you are considered AEO.

The ways to get Basic Course credit are:
- 4 yrs JROTC in HS
- Freshman and Sophomore ROTC classes in College
- Attending Basic Camp (it is too late for you to go this Summer)
- Basic Combat Training as an enlisted Soldier.
