Getting Stationed in Germany or Italy Difficulty (Army)

That reminds me of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, where the saying was “You will get one of the three D’s: dog, divorce or dependent.” Since it’s often the first shore tour after operational/sea duty, “starter marriages” founder when the couple lives together without deployments, officers get married or have a child, or finally get a dog.

Great duty station as a student - San Francisco/Napa/Sonoma a few hours to the north, great produce from Salinas and the valley, Pacific Coast Highway, Monterey itself, decent climate, never too hot.
Sorry to bring an old thread back from the dead, but I saw this comic and it made me laugh about it. Also, assignments going on this past month for SAs and it’s a good reminder that, in the words of Buckaroo Banzai, “No matter where you go, there you are.”
My niece and her husband got a new kid from Monterey, so yeah. They got another one of the third “D’s” on your list. They make a good pair.

Uh, come to think of it. My younger brother was born in Monterey while we lived there while my Dad was at the Post Grad School. o_O

Of course, there were already two of us kids, so a third wasn't that big of a stretch. ;)

oh
my method for when I get to that point: just expect to end up at Polk and you’ll be happy wherever you end up at...unless it actually turns out to be Polk
