Just 34 days till the season opener vs Delaware ~ Can you feel it?

Walking amongst the tailgaters in our Navy gear two hours before kickoff, a full walk around the stadium the hour before seeing so many happy, patriotic service members and veterans, the Mids in their sharp-looking uniforms, family and fans, getting your picture with Bill The Goat, seeing the Brigade march on, and then the players and coaches.. it's positively electric. Before they play the national anthem, they invite veterans to salute the flag too.. my eyes welled up.. it's a feeling of family difficult to describe.

If you've been, where do you like to sit?

The 50 yard line, lowest upper deck available is our favorite perch. Check out the video link below!

Navy Football - The Power Of Tradition

Thank you for sharing. It’s going to be our first time at a Navy game (DD is a plebe) I just can’t wait!!
Not sure how it will be this year, however, we have seen Mids saying hello to family and friends at the game; in the shopping/food areas and in the stands. At halftime for example. And we have met some Mids over the years too- asking them if they were having fun, about their majors, from which part of the country they've come, and more. Nice bunch of young adults.

Actually a Delaware alum here, been down to see the Hens play Navy often in the past. We used to park and tailgate in the small parking lot at St. Paul's church right off of Rowe. Is that still a spot you can get into and park, assuming you get there early enough (and we normally don't have a problem with really early if need be)?

The Delaware game opener will be exciting for sure- anything can happen! Although we haven't parked at St. Paul's, we have parked on the other side (Just past Taylor & Rowe) in the lot for Calvary United Methodist Church. For them it's a fundraiser ($20) and they too are very nice people.

Delaware grad here and hopeful parent of a 2027 applicant.

I come from a long line of UD football supporters - my father recalls a game in the mid ‘80s, played in Newark, where Delaware took it to Navy and came out ahead.

Navy never made the trip back to Newark after that game but we’ve been fortunate to see UD play in Annapolis several times since then. Looking forward to next weekend.

I recall the game where Delaware QB Joe Flacco whacked the Midshipmen up one dude and down the other.

That was the Napoleon McCollum game. Great atmosphere in Newark that day. Think that was the only one Navy played in Newark. The two I really remember in Annapolis were the 2003 game (really good Navy team that year, Paul Johnson's second year at the helm - UD won the I-AA title later that year) and the Flacco game that Capt MJ just mentioned (wide open game that year, not the best defensive effort by either team that day). Always a fun game when it's on the schedule.

I can only imagine what @Capt MJ's tailgater is going to be like.
Speaking of tailgating...

Being that this is a noon kickoff, it is obviously going to be a morning pre-game tailgate. What dishes are you all planning on bringing along? I'm not sure if I want to bother with the grill. Maybe I'll just keep it at muffins and bloody marys...

I assume there is Bacon somewhere.:thumb: Projected 84 and humid for this Saturday. For Memphis Game projected HUMID.:eek2:

Bacon biscuits!!!! Ham biscuits!!! Jars of spicy chili onion bacon jam to add to biscuits if desired. Pretzel dipping sticks and raspberry honey mustard dip. Sweet treats from the Amish Market. Bagels from either Bagels And or Naval Bagels, my own sun-dried tomato and fresh basil cream cheese in the cooler. Cantaloupe chunks from the farmer’s market on wooden skewers with cored strawberries. Cold pasta salad made with tri-color pasta, grilled or oven-roasted veg (Vidalia onions, bell peppers, zucchini, etc.) with a non-dairy dressing such as balsamic vinaigrette. Various spicy nuts.

Cranberry orange screwdrivers. 😎

I will be the one wandering about looking for the @Capt MJ bat signal. :)

For early games we used to cook up breakfast burritos on the flat top. Pre cut everything and cook it there. Easy to cook on the flat top we had. Bring salsa, cheese, avocado, sour cream and let folks make their own. Hand portable with a nice mimosa or Bloody Mary, fruit trays, and muffins… we were set.

Mmmmmm, flat tops are great at tailgaters.
