God Save America.

I don't think putting him up for SecDef would have gone over well, as was floated at one point.

1. After serving in combat in Afghanistan, I am even less quick to judge those who were in combat in Vietnam than I might have been before.

2. He seems like he's got pretty reasonable credentials for the job, and I'm sure they floated it on both sides of the aisle in the Senate to make sure he'll get the confirmation vote.

3. It's a tough world out there -- good luck to him.

Agree 100%.

Ditto.

Don't care for the man's politics, but I also don't think that has one thing to do with his qualifications as Sec'y of State.

After reading the links I respect the man even more.

SoS is a better fit for him than SoD. I actually think as a Vietnam vet, the 1st vet in the last 15+ yrs; regardless of his actions when he returned home, he has a very unique perspective of how the State Dept role can impact the Defense Dept.

As Flieger stated, not a fan of his politics, but he is extremely qualified for the position.
