I'm a rising high school junior this year planning on going to West Point after I graduate high school. I'm a straight-A student, run varsity cross country and track, and have almost earned my Eagle Scout rank. I've been preparing myself for applying for the Class of 2018, but I've recently heard that it's possible to enlist in the National Guard during the summer between Junior/Senior year and get a slot to West Point from there. (Information on that here.) I've "heard" that, normally, some of the slots that the National Guard holds for West Point go unfilled, but then this webpage says that it's very competitive to get a slot. All-in-all, this route to West Point sounds somewhat risky, and I was wondering what you guys at the forum think about it and whether you think it's a feasible method. Thanks.
