I love golf and am hoping to be able to play a lot (for fun, not on team) at the Air Force Academy over my next four years there.

A few questions though. When would I have the opportunity to play freshman year? I know there are two courses on campus; are freshman allowed to play during the week/on the weekends?

Also, would my parents be able to bring my clubs up to me on Parents Day Weekend? Just not sure if it would be allowed.

Thanks!

As a 4 dig you really don't have all that much free time to go down to the golf course. That being said, I had a squad mate who had his golf clubs with him I think since parents weekend and he would borrow an upperclassman's car to go down to the golf course every once in a while. After Recognition in the spring he had a lot more time to go down to Eisenhower. I actually went a couple times with him and rented clubs for the day from the golf course itself. It's a nice golf course and it's always fun to get away from Academy stuff even if for just a couple hours!

Our son has had his clubs since last year at prep school. He stores them at the golf course for I believe $10/month. He didn't have a lot of time to play before recognition but has played a lot more since. Both courses are nice and he said they are in great shape this year. Cadet fees are really reasonable and if your parents play you can get good rates for them also! I think it is $5 after 3:00 pm for unlimited play. Not sure what rates are before twilight. He rides his bike to the course.

I am pretty sure golf is an USAFA requirement. Isn't a golf course the first thing they build on new AF bases? That and an O club.

I never played before recognition, but have gone many times after. Trust me... you'll be busy.

Do your parents have to be military to play on the AFA courses with you or can you bring them on as guests?

they can play as guests but they have to pay more. As cadets you get a really good deal and I think they get a deal as parents but not as much
