On the eve of Indoc day zero, good luck to the incoming class.

Three pieces of advice to the plebe candidates:
1. Hydrate (way more than you think you need to);
2. Have the backs of your classmates (your reputation at KP starts the moment you step on campus and stays with you throughout your time at KP and beyond); and
3. Keep your sense of humor (there is plenty if BS you will have to deal with at KP, so let the fun moments carry you through the valleys).

One piece of advice for new parents:
Let your DD/DS thrive at KP. They made it this far and have accomplished a lot in their young lives with your support. They have what it takes to make their way through KP with less support from you and more support from their new classmates. Time to let go a bit (easier said than done, I know). Then be prepared to be amazed.

Fair winds and following seas to all!

Good advice, particularly that last. That is what my parents did. Of course even getting in was my idea, too. Living all the way on the West Coast also helped. I have also done much the same for my kids (although they did not opt for KP) and they are certainly thriving on their own.

Thanks for advice!

I am so thankful for all your inputs and kind advices as well. This forum is great for good information.
However, information is not the only thing I get from here and you.

KP family(including you)really shows what KP family means and welcomes everybody with open arms.

I am so excited to be part of great family and to see you in person someday. Thanks again.

Just an FYI that Indoc begins Friday for 2022... Great advice as always, @kpmom2013, and truly Welcome Aboard 2022 Plebe Candidates! :director:

Good luck 2022 Plebe Candidates! Congrats to all. One additional piece of advice for parents...when your plebe candidates call (in about 9 days), make sure you are strong and supportive. I know that sounds obvious, but some DS/DDs will call crying and wanting to quit. It'll be hard hearing your DD/DS upset, but they will get through it. Remind them how strong and capable they are. You can cry when they hang up the phone. Good luck, parents!

Has anyone seen the 2018-19 Regimental Calendar yet? Nothing on the website that I can find. DS is currently at sea, somewhere in the Gulf of Alaska, and kind of "out-of-touch". Don't want to miss any KP happenings while he's away..... Thanks!

I was given a handout of the calendar at our Welcome Aboard Event a couple of weeks ago. I can scan it and send it to you if you want. Unless someone else can find a PDF somewhere for you.

Thanks cousmma. I knew someone on this forum would hook me up. Be KP!

One Plebe Candidate quit on Day 2. Another one is near quitting, but still thinking. Blag flag heat everyday do far, so physical activity has been limited.

Do the barracks have AC now? My plebe year, in 1981, was one of the hottest Julys on record with heat in the mid 90s for days. . . . I don't really want to sound like that guy yelling at the neighbors' kids, but I can tell you it was brutal, with no real relief. Sure got me ready for those steam (and diesel) engine rooms in the tropics. .

That does sound brutal, cmakin. My brother was there, class of 1987, and I know there was no a/c then. I'm not sure when they got it.

All have AC now. When my DS was there starting in 2009, some barracks had AC and some (including his) did not have it yet. It made for a lot of resentment against the companies that had it!

We didn't even get "fan privileges" until the fall. That allowed us to put window fans in. Of course a bit late to be a relief. I still remember laying in my rack at night that year at Indoc. Sweating in the stifling heat and wondering what the hell I got myself into. . . character building to be sure.

The A/C in my barracks was out during indoc and a lot of the summer that year. I felt the same way. And nobody brought a fan, because we thought everything was air conditioned.

Here's my kids room 2nd class year [summer 2003] equipped with duel 'forced draft' fans.. The Juliet flag and number 2 pennant were courtesy of dear old dad..
