Good or Bad?

Hello,
I hate to be the worried candidate, but is not hearing back about my status a good or bad thing? Both my RC and field force rep. told me hang in there and that it is now a waiting game. I don't have a bad senioritis so I occupied myself with a part time job. But not knowing if I'm good enough is always in the back of my head. Any one with this experience, or am I too anxious?

If you weren't good enough you'd have already received a rejection. You aren't out until you're out. It truly is just a big waiting game. Keep yourself occupied by working on Plan Bs. If you end up actually getting accepted, rather than worrying around use this time to enjoy yourself!

The waiting is the worse part. There is still plenty of time. Mean while, stay healthy, work hard at school, stay out of trouble and work the Plan B

Push Hard, Press Forward

My son did not hear anything from the time he got a nomination in early December until he got the appointment this past weekend. Those three months were tough. He kept wondering if he'd done enough... Should he have taken the SAT one more time?... Should he have applied to more than one Academy?... Would he be able to get in next year if USMA passed him up this year?... All his worrying was for not. So is yours. At this point, your file is in and the ball is in their court. You have done the leg work, now, though easier said than done, just hang tight. This is the sweet spot of waiting. Enjoy your senior year, keep doing what's right in front of you and know that even getting as far as you have is a huge accomplishment!

My son's RC was pretty straight with him...he said things like: "You'd make a great reapplicant. I think you'll be too low on the NWL for an offer. Have you secured your plan B?" So, when the TWL arrived, we were not surprised. The next year, as a reapplicant, it was a totally different story. He heard things like: "you're looking good, keep building your file, get all the noms you can."

Whereas I am going to say, you are still in the game until your TWE reaches your mail box. My #3 received an appointment to USAFA--no one ever said, "Oh this looks good" or anything, there was never a word of feedback so it was rather like the Hail Mary Pass of college applications and seemed very aspirational in terms of GPA and SAT scores--and yet he was accepted yesterday--so my attitude is now: You do not know it is over until it is over. Stay confident but keep working on a back up plan that is more than a fall back but rather something you want to do to get to where you want to go in this life. Good luck and keep the faith.

Thank you for your comments and opinions. I am still waiting patiently for a status update but still none. I have not even gotten a letter that it will be going to the board for review as some have posted on this forum. Is that a bad sign?

Neither have I, so don't worry too much. My brother applied to USMA and didn't hear back until the second week in April. They will contact us eventually, hopefully with good news. Good luck, keep faith

Does anyone know what are the academically qualifying scores for SAT/ACT? I am most likely around the bottom for the reading (580) but somewhere in the middle for the math (660) for the new SAT. Also, how does WP look at the sub scores for each subject? For example the reading now has two parts, the actual reading and writing scores, scoured from I think 1-40.

Based on observation, I think a 30 reading is qualified and 28 English is. But I am not sure. A friend had the same English score as me which was a 28. He was DQed and I am 3Q, so who knows. His RC told him the English sub score DQed him. There probably is some "wiggle" room that admissions has. But as others will say, shoot for your best. Which you should.

Best of luck!

Our Class of 2017 Firstie took the SATs and ACTs like eight times over three years. Each time raising his scores a few points. It was worth the $$$.

Hello everyone,
So I received the infamous TWE. It was a little disappointing, but I'm not going to cry about it. I mean, after reading it, I just headed to the gym for almost 2-3 hours to get it out. This was my second attempt, so I guess all my efforts weren't enough for USMA. It's alright, I enjoyed the journey, I learned that I didn't want to go to USMA to be a student, I wanted to be a leader. I tried gettting answers for improvement from the admissions officer in my area, but no response, which is understandable because he has no obligation to talk to a rejected candidate as he is busy prepping the next incoming class. So I guess I'll go to my plan B of doing that. To whoever received and accepted an appointment, I just hope that they will be the greatest and most willing leaders in the Army.
Although I will not be as joyful at a university as I would at USMA, I will be he best leader I can aspire to be in the Armed Forces. Thank you. And congrats to those who received an appointment, you most certainly deserve it. :)

Wcyeung123-That was a very mature and heartfelt post. So sorry to hear the news, but I can already tell from your tone and sincerity, you will be successful in whatever you do, especially as a leader. Keep up your enthusiasm and BTW, your admissions officer should be giving you input on improvement. All the best in your future!!

My DD heard from her RC last week and he just told her to stay positive and she should hear something mid to end of April, so I think they will begin on the NWL.
