Got an appointment, do I still need an SAT?

Hi,

I recently accepted an appointment to USAFAPS. I wasn’t able to take a standardized test due to covid, but I was finally able to schedule one where the test center didn’t close due capacity and it is scheduled for tomorrow. I unfortunately do not anticipate my scores would be above 620 on Evidence-based reading and writing or above 580 math which are the scores needed to be competitive for an appointment as stated on the USAFA admissions website. With that being said should I still take the SAT? Would it have any impact on my appointment to USAFAP?

Thank you for your help.

I thought they got a nomination guaranteed from their commander or something at their school.
Candidates going to the Service prep school or sponsored civilian prep are expected to re-apply for nominations. The SA Superintendents do have discretionary noms they can use if needed.

If you haven’t yet read the Sticky at the top of the Nominations forum, I recommend it.

Our DS is at USAFA prep now. He did not have to retake any tests. His application carried over & only had to reapply for nomination. Congratulations!

Once a preppie..ALWAYS a preppie! It’s a blessing!
Thanks for this info.
Does that mean DS doesn’t need to get new letters of recommendation either?
(He’ll still need them for the nomination process.)

He did not need new letters for the academy as everything rolled over. He sent in the same letters for nominations as the year before but you can get new ones if you want to.

My DS just received an appointment to USAFAPS. He did not get a nomination for USAFA so did not expect this. I read that your application transfers over for next year and don't need new LOR or essays but if you didn't get a nomination the first time are the chances better the next being that you are already part of the prep? And even if SATs weren't the best you don't retake? Thanks!!

As to nominations, I believe the USAFAPS prepsters still apply for all for which they are eligible, in the upcoming cycle. If they fail to secure a nom, and successfully complete prep, one of the Superintendent’s discretionary noms will likely be used for them.
