Govt shutdown Round 2

And $18 trillion isn't the real scary number, throw in everything we've promised our citizens and it's a MUCH higher number.

And we don't know how to stop.... But like I said earlier, we live in a 9-1-1 world where we assume someone is always going to be there to pick up the phone and bail us out...

I

The trajectory of the national debt is disturbing. The steep trajectory has less to do with growth in discretionary spending, food stamps, farm programs planned parenthood and more to do with the projected growth in middle class entitlements and medicaid, which has become a middle class entitlement as well. Minor changes today have outsized effects in forward years.
.

Right on the Mark..

Did someone REALLY talk about the "merits of Trump and his record of accomplishments"? You mean the guy who took $7Billion of his Daddy's money and proceed over a nearly 50 year career in business increase that value by less than 40%? Who has a track record of disappointments and failures along with his limited successes, where he made his money by screwing over other business partners? Who mostly has success now because he branded his name, just like a Kardashian? And like a Kardashian, has NO CLUE on real events or real issues? That guy? Come on, we can do MUCH better than that Carnival Sideshow Barker.

As to what the far right considers a "Conservative"? Well, it's a losing proposition, focused on the wrong ills with this country. It's a "Values"focused agenda, with values that are out of tune with the vast majority of this country. And the real ills, our fiscal issues, are placed on the side show, with few of these "social conservatives" having ANY idea how to address them besides " less taxes". The Republican Party is near extinction if they continue to follow this path, and they refuse to acknowledge it. More scary, is that their debates and ideas are so absurd to be sadly laughable. If the election comes down to a choice between Trump (or Carson, or Cruz) and Hillary... Well, I'm writing in "tree stump", it probably would he the better choice.....

Of course, Your BUDS in control certainly won't! Everyone has to Prove their PEDIGREE to be able to play on LITS FORUM( The great CGA Clearing-House vetting guy has spoken).

Gee golly, thanks Mr. Wilson.

Bullet, that $7 billion dollar number you cite is pure nonsense. According to the New York Times (a 2005 story) - Donald Trump and each of his four siblings inherited about $35 million apiece.

I don't believe that Trump is worth $8 - 10 billion as he proclaims, the "branding" valuation number is a bit ephemeral. But Trump did legitimately grow most of his fortune on his own.

This term "Far Right Conservative" is a bunch of crap. The Country was founded under the principal of less Federal Government and to give the voice of decision to the populace via first Local and State Governments. Since this is lost, over decadesesses the Country is forced to take steps toward this object or continue into a lost State-a vacuum-that has been filled with what we have and getting worse.

The Family has been completely decimated -again- a vacuum filled with crap. With a populace destroyed(family unit), one has start there to somehow repair or go back to those ways of life(unfortunately the majority of people in this country have never tasted and lived that life and know not what was-the yutes you here on here can not understand or make a comparison to that life) or the country will be beyond repair-as simple as that...To fix it should be the topic of discussion and get Feds back to what they are supposed to be doing--protect our Country.

@Bullet You sound like a staunch Liberal. Conservatism is based on the Principles that his Nation was Founded upon. You are saying that the Values which Conservatives follow is "out of tune" with the vast majority of the Country is idiotic. For example: The majority of people in this Country will state Marriage is between man and woman, as God intended. The Supreme Court does not have the authority to create legislation and declare all sexes can get married to each other.

You seem like the person who supported Planet Fitness's decision of allowing males to change in females locker rooms because the male "feels" like a female. Furthermore, I like how you mentioned the Kardashians because your probably a big supporter of "Caitlyn' Jenner. It is a male, Bruce Jenner plain and simple. You probably think that the President appointing a transgender person in his council was a "Smart" decision because apparently, according to you, the "majority" of people in the Nation agree with his decision.

Not too mention you stated that Conservatives are focused on the wrong of this Country, so I take it that you support the President's nuclear agreement with Iran. You support the Iranians who are shouting "Death to Israel, Death to America". You support the Iranian government who remains one of the leaders in Nations which support State-sponsored terrorism.

Your just another problem in this Country @Bullet

PS - You're probably the type of person who calls Illegal immigrants "undocumented"

Dasani, welcome to SAF.

I hope you have something to contribute other than personal attacks and idiosyncratic orthography. Thank you for not posting in all caps.

@EDelahanty Welcome to the United States of America which is an individualistic society. If you want to be successful in Life, YOU must put forth the effort. You get, what you put into it. Don't rely on Mom and Dad, or the government to provide stuff for you. Take control of your own life.

PS - if that was you trying to insult me, you did not. I'm a proud member of the South and you have to do better than that to get to me.

I'm confused by the random capitalization...

@LineInTheSand The stuff I capitalize is according to the capitalization rules. South is capitalized because I am referring to the geographic region of the United States as a whole and the history of the South in its entirety ie. the Confederacy. Life is capitalized because Life is an important thing. Please refer to the Declaration of Independence.

Plus, I could take your comment and fire that back at you with--I am confused by your username "LineInTheSand"

PS : I do make mistakes in my grammar if I send off a message too quickly. I'm sure you can forgive me for that mishap.

That's what I mean by trajectory, which was established long before Obama came into office. Medicare Part D, the largest unfunded mandate in history and the largest mandate since the Great Society was a Bush/Rove creation.

Simpson--Bolles attempted the flatten the trajectory. Obama wouldn't touch entitlements, Republicans wouldn't touch taxes. Deal dead. Many of those willing to compromise lost their seats in Congress.

Don't worry being confused is normal for you.

At times I think you believe you're an agent of change, someone who's CGA experiences are still relevant.

But I'm not sure that's true.

You've been reduced to a grumpy old man who complains about disability and goes on personal attacks...

And the effect has been... No one really cares anymore. You've entered the echo chamber and the folks you most alienate are other Coast Guard Academy graduates and cadets.

It makes us happy that the mission was to be worthy of traditions officers... And not graduates.

It's random....

As for my name... It was taken from a series of Coast Guard ads used around 2006-2007.
