My daughter's high school calculates GPA on an unweighted average and only an unweighted average. If her GPA were weighted, it would be higher because she has been in an all-honors curriculum. Will she be at a disadvantage in applying to USMMA because her GPA is not weighted? I have to believe many applicants report a weighted GPA.

Yeah, you should be fine. My school went by unweighted GPA and I was accepted into MMA.

Can't they just look at your classes and determine your weighted GPA at admissions?

i'm pretty sure most schools that use the weighted GPA system show both weighted and unweighted GPA on the final transcripts. i wouldn't worry too much.

I guess an admissions person could look at my daughter's transcript and tell the GPA is not weighted.

She has already spoken with a very helpful and impressive young admissions field representative, and she is scheduled for an admissions interview in August. We realize she is only a rising junior, but given that she has to act beginning next spring, we want to learn now if Kings Point is the place (or a place) for her.

Admissions is wonderful and very approachable. Make sure that the info that it is not weighted is passed along. They also will look at class rank. I have a herd time believeing that classes taken are not considered when the school does ranking.

Our son's high school started weighted GPAs only this past year - too late for 3 of his 4 AP-level classes to be weighted. However, the school explained its GPA and ranking system with the transcript sent to USMMA, so I'm sure that Admissions was more interested in his curriculum.

She won't have a problem as long as the GPA was high. If not, then I would have the high school send a letter explaining their grade process.

Good Luck!
