Does USAFA take unweighted GPA? Or both unweighted and weighted? And if they take both, which do they care about most, or is it mainly class standing/rank?

Unweighted. I had to ask my counselor to send me my unweighted GPA for the pre candidate questionnaire

Son's school doesn't weigh GPA so he could only send unweighted. USAFA changed his GPA to a 4.0 from 3.89 for his application purposes.

As stealth mentioned, the academy we re-weigh your unweighted gpa. This is where your senior schedule, school profile and such come into play. This way the academy can take all the different schools that have such diverse curriculums, and turn them all into apples so they can be compared equally. Some schools have honors classes, some have AP classes, some have the IB program, some like some rural schools where I live have only basic classes. Obviously it's not the students fault if a school doesn't offer advanced classes and they can't take any.

This is why you send unweighted gpa to he academy. And don't panick if your gpa doesn't get changed higher because you took advanced classes. It's part of a formula and algorhythm. My son was in the IB program and had a 4.0 gpa for all 4 years of high school. It was unweighted. When the academy calculated, it was still a 4.0.

I know this is a super old thread, but how will I know what my adjusted GPA is? Will it just show up on the portal at some point?

Yes, it will. You will see they have a different GPA than your transcript so you will know they adjusted it, if they do make a change. My son's was adjusted upward also.
