Good day everyone!

My son has received a 4-year Army ROTC scholarship. We are looking through the paperwork and are wondering what the GPA requirements are to keep the scholarship from year to year. We can't seem to locate this.

TIA!!!

Congratulations!
Read the Scholarship contract Form DA 597-3. It gives you the terms for keeping the scholarship.

Page three, Section 2 (d) says: "I agree to maintain a 2.0 on a 4.0 or equivalent scale. This grade point average must be maintained for each semester or quarter."

Keep in mind that a 2.0 is NOT going to place you at the top of the OML list for competing for both active duty as well as the choice of branch your DS seeks.

AROTC-dad is right, however, different units may have different standards for their own cadets. My unit sets the lowest at 2.5 before you are put on probation and/or counseled, but in order to keep the scholarship it is still 2.0.

It's a legitimate question, but really, why focus on the minimum requirements? Leave the gaming console home and aim for a 4.0 GPA and a 300 APFT.

@AROTC-dad very good point! My DD's school requires a 3.0 for all nursing students, so since she has a ROTC scholarship for nursing, if she doesn't stay in her nursing program then the ROTC scholarship is the least of her worries!

I am guessing the original poster thought it was higher. For example, I have two non-ROTC daughters that have athletic and academic scholarships. Their athletic requirement is lower, 2.3 GPA, however, their academic scholarships are a 3.2. While they have 4.0 GPA's after one semester in college, they are both STEM majors, so needing to know what it realistically is, is truly important. There are few people who actually get a 4.0 in college, to strive for it might even be unrealistic and therefore might always feel like a failure when it is not obtained. Being on the Dean's List for example (3.5 and above at most schools but not all), is a better goal for example.

Thank you all. I did believe it was higher and of course, we are not focused on the minimum, but seeking all information to become most informed.

Thank you!
