Graduations are right around the corner and people keep asking me for ideas for our DS who is headed to USNA. Don’t know if anyone else is struggling with ideas so thought I might start a discussion to gather ideas.

While you’re waiting, go browse the threads that start every year at this time about HS gifts for a SA-bound DS or DD.

I’ll start, recalling all the ideas floated each year. None of these are needed for PS.

- Uber gift cards
- Amazon gift cards
- Southwest or other airline gift cards
- Kilwin’s gift cards or other Downtown Annapolis (DTA) eatery or treat shop
- movie gift cards
- a flag for his room that meets room regulations (someone here can expand on that)
- iPad Air with pencil for class notes or other note-taking device

To follow up on that, what would people recommend regarding laptop/ipad for a mid? Would an iPad be better instead of a laptop? I know mids are issued laptops but are they worth it? Thank you!

The issued laptops have installed security software that allows them to access govt systems.

Down the road, let your mid decide what they want or need in terms of personal laptops.

A fat Apple gift card would probably never be sneezed at…

Can the midd purchase internet for their rooms for their persona use? Is it campus wide?

I’ll defer to a current or recent mid to respond, or a current parent. Connectivity has slowly improved over the years.

Of course, the mid can always add hotspot ability to their smartphone and connect securely to their personal devices.

And, join in the jargonacious fun of never using “campus” for “N*ot College.” Yard-wide!
