I have accepted an appointment to USAFA. My last semester of high school has been very busy, and I currently have a C in one of my classes. Am I in danger of having my appointment rescinded? I have been trying my hardest to pull it up, but I was just wondering if one C would jeopardize an appointment.

You're fine. Don't bomb all your classes, but one C is not a problem.

ok thanks for that i have a c in ap stats right now... it is destroying me

Thanks for asking that question. I am in a similar situation with one of my classes, although I should be able to pull it up to an B.

what my congressman's aide told me was "dont fail any classes and dont cherrybomb mailboxes and you'll be there in june"

good advice, if ya ask me.

And don't forget: DO NOT GET INJURED! That's why bubble wrap was invented, after all.

Brian, don't make me come down to the springs after you. I expect to see you parent's weekend at "Thudgate". "RESISTANCE IS FUTILE".

In all seriousness, just do your best. Don't fall into the trap that many do, (Not just academy appointments), where they slack off their second semester in their senior year. They start to breath and think everything is all taken care of. "Brian, I'm not saying you are. You know me. I speak to EVERYONE in case others are reading and not asking questions or commenting".

FWIW: The year my son graduated high school, 5 athletes had scholarships to college. "4 if you don't count my son who was a recruited athlete for Air Force, but already had his appointment in November PRIOR to being recruited". Well, all did well except for 1 of the 5 athletes. He was ranked one of the best in his sport in the ENTIRE COUNTRY. Had been since 9th grade. So many schools were after him. He thought he had it all locked up. He kept letting his grades slip. 2 months before graduation, the high school informed him that he might not graduate because he gpa wasn't high enough. He begged and pleaded with every teacher to work extra after school and on weekends. They worked with him and he got high enough to graduate. Happy ending????? No, not really. GPA while high enough to graduate, wasn't high enough for NCAA rules. All schools pulled their scholarships for college.

Point is; at a minimum; you've busted your butt for the last 4 years for this appointment. Some of you have busted butt for the last 12 years. Are you really going to risk all of that hard work for a 3-4 month period of "False Security"??? The majority of you have at least 2 full months left of high school. Dedicate yourself 1 extra hour per day to that one class that is being a PITA. (Not to be confused with PIMA. LOL). If you give that one subject that one extra hour per day; including weekends; above what you're giving it now, you get the grade that you are more satisfied with. And you'll be proud of your accomplishment. And you'll learn something truly about your determination.

Am I saying that a single "C" in the last semester is going to hurt your appointment? No, it's not. I'm not going to lie to you and tell you it will. But you didn't get an appointment to the UNITED STATES AIR FORCE ACADEMY with a gpa made of "C's"; did you? Is that the grade you want to finish with? Hey, if you give it the extra hour per day, and give it all you have, and you still end up with a "C"; then at least you know you tried your very best. But do you really want a "C" because you know that the 1 "C" isn't going to hurt your appointment? Do you really want to just kick back and relax because you "KNOW" your college years are already figured out? If you had that attitude during the application process, do you think you'd still have received an appointment??? Maybe yes, maybe no. Point is, it's your hard work and determination that has gotten you your appointment. Don't change your personality and attitude now.

Now Brian; you, I'm simply teasing. I've gotten to know you pretty well over the last year. For what it's worth, I am very impressed with you. Your determination, grit, and passion has been quite apparent in your posts and our personal conversations. Your desire to serve is strong and I know that you will do quite well at the academy and in the air force. I know that you will work as hard on that last test of the school year as you have the last 4 years. But it's important that anyone with an appointment, not become complacent. Yes, have fun. Enjoy the rest of your senior year. But this is the time to buckle down and "FINISH, WHAT YOU STARTED". best of luck to all of you. Mike....
