At USNA, if a firstie graduates, but is not commissioned for medical reasons, is that person assigned to a land position rather than at sea,? Do they serve their obligation entirely in the Navy Reserves for a longer period than 5 years?

if they are NPQ for military service generally, they are given a diploma, a handshake, and sent on heir way to the civilian world. If they can serve in a staff corps or restricted line billet, they will be required to do that, if qualified.

If the med DQ occurs during the first two years, they will not be allowed to stay and complete their degree. If they have signed their service obligation papers at the start of junior year, and are then med DQ’ed from all availablelines of Navy or Marine service, the Supe has the discretion to allow them to finish their degree if they are able.

Maybe things are different at USNA than USAFA, but you are not offered “grad no comm” unless you are a firstie. You become a firstie the day of graduation. If your separation orders are processed in May, you will not graduate.
