Graduation 2011 Question

If you look at the links that I posted you will see the ticket order form for all of the events that weekend. The heading reads;

The Class of 2011 would like to extend our invitation to the
Graduates, friends and family to this year’s Commencement Dinner Cruise

The cruise is supposed to be one of the highlights of the weekend and not to be missed - I believe this is the ship - Cornucopia Majesty

Just got the answer to my question from my DS. The speaker is Mayor Bloomberg.

No Cruise, Yes Dinner/Dance

DD decided to forgo the Cruise and take us to her favorite hang out with her favorite bartender. We will spend that $$$ on a Broadway Musical in NYC.

She thought the Dinner was too expensive BUT I reminded her that I had been saving income tax returns for 2 years to be able to do the things SHE wanted to do, as well as the things her sister, husband and I wanted to do.

I am glad that we get to select each activity separately. It certainly freed up $$ for other highlights.

As DD said, she can not see beyond the tests or the papers due from day to day. It would be nice to skip it all right to Graduation pretending that Licensing had all ready been PASSED.

:shake:

Spoke w DS today and he sounded exhausted. License prep is taking a toll. When I said the end of the tunnel is near he replied that it is 25 days until exams - I think he is starting to see some light after four grueling years. Cannot wait until graduation.

This June, it will have been 30 years since I graduated. I can say that important days like getting married, the birth of two kids, getting divorced; all pale in comparison to the way I felt on that late June morning on Long Island. I know my kids understand that. Not so sure about the ex, though. I still remember running down to the oval and ringing the bell after passing License, too. Like it was yesterday.

I attended Bell ringing last year and I must say it was probably the most excitement I've seen on the campus, I completely understand what you are saying cmakin. I was unable to attend graduation last year, but many of the mids told me that bell ringing was more important than the ceremony of graduation :)

Wow this is the first time I think we disagree on something like this. I know I rank the day I rung the bell up there with highlights and achievements in my life but that day is not in my locker compartment with my wedding day or the birth of our son. It's up there with any other of my professional and personal achievements and days but just not on the same level as either of those two days or feelings.

The trick to passing license besides the endless amounts of studying is looking yourself in the mirror right before you go into the exam and say "I'm going to pass first time." over and over again...worked for me. I passed first time last year...spread the secret

Well, I look at it in my own warped way. Getting married? Well, just about every well adjusted and too many mal adjusted folks get married. Even more have kids. Getting divorced? Lots of folks do that too, although I pretty much threw that one in for humor. That said, my wedding day was pretty non-traditional, to say the least. I am not one hung up on the niceties of tradition.

Were those important days to me? Yes. That said, not too many folks get through the rigors of a Service Academy, let alone KP and getting a license. That is probably why they stand out to me.

Oh, an on an unrelated note, my son just made it to E-4 in the Naval Reserve. He is now working on getting the deployment he wants. Unfortunately neither of my kids had the interest or the grades to get into KP. I am not sure that my working schedule inspired them to be interested in a career with a maritime leaning.
