Graduation and commissioning gift ideas

I'm giving a hug and a Saint Michael coin. DH is in charge of goodies....

A hand-made wooden keepsake box (approximately 8"x10"x3") with a military service crest (USMC, USN, USAFA, USA, USCG) on top. My husband still has the one I bought him 3 decades ago before he started TBS at Quantico. It's great for storing uniform accessories (ranks, ribbons, pins, ...).

These are great; I have given similar over the years.

For women, a monogrammed leather jewelry case is good for the same kinds of things plus jewelry. I give these to college grads, HS got ads heading to gap year, etc. Young JOs will be on the road, having something compact, sturdy and well-made, will be a useful and a long-lasting reminder of the occasion.

You can google "women's leather jewelry case roll," and find a wide range of styles and prices. I have used this site most recently:

For DS's commissioning, among other things, we contacted one of our Senators and arranged to have a flag flown over the US capitol in his honor. We purchased a nice flag case with an engraved brass plaque including his name and date of commission. I actually don't remember what else we gave him but suffice it to say the kid was always spoiled, although he never acted it.

No. Sword is not on the wall. I actually only have a few things up. My framed basketball jersey, my diploma and there is a wall of honor that are pictures of all my close friends who have been killed.

My husband has his on "a wall", but also has other special items of more sentiments on "the wall" as well.
