Considering current events, I wanted to reach out and thank all who have made sacrifices to serve, I know it is sometimes odd to say thank you but I am appreciative. In addition, I am proud of all of these candidates for choosing this difficult and risky path. Times are always uncertain but they sure seem to be so now. These young men and women are aware of the risks and following current threats and still forging ahead. I am nervous as a mom, but grateful knowing we have youth who will choose this path to serve.

You will definitely look at the news differently than you did before you had a kid in the military. I currently have three of my kids serving, and am pretty much in constant worry mode, especially when they are deployed. Then my oldest has to go and tell me that he is statistically more likely to die or suffer a serious injury while he is training than while he is deployed. Not exactly the reassurance I was looking for. But still proud as I can be of all of them, and grateful they are working and fighting alongside others who chose to serve.

Oh man hugs to you. Lots to ponder. I am proud of his choice and desire to serve and lead. My nerves will just have to learn to be in a constant state of static.

I already look at the news differently and DS is still 5 months from USMA or 7 months from ROTC. I can’t imagine what it will be like after graduation and even during more intense summer training before then.
We come from a family with very little military experience, but very pro military in the abstract. Now it soon will be rather concrete vs abstract. When DS said he wanted to take this path, I remember saying, “I always have respected the hell out of people who serve. I just never thought it would be one of my kids.” But when he told me, I realized how much sense it made for this particular kid.

When we took our DS to the airport to fly back to USNA after Christmas break, another Mom approached my wife (who was in tears, because she can't help herself, bless her heart) and said to her that she is "a Marine Mom, and it never gets any easier to see them go". This stranger then hugged her and made my wife smile from ear to ear. I gave her a Semper Fi and got a hug too.

Thanks for the thanks, @Heatherg21 !
