The Grayback is the last resting place of 80 men, including the 2 mentioned in the story. The photo is of William Charles Roy, Jr. of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; USNA Class of December, 1941.

Its been so long that there may not be anyone around who remember these fallen sailors. The shame being that their families never knew what happened to them.

I am so impressed by the fact there is an exploration group dedicated to finding these lost submarines.

This made me look up the submarine verses in “Eternal Father” (Navy Hymn). I am sure someone has updated them by now to reflect the 9 years we have had women in the submarine service.

I hope there are family descendants who knew of the loss and will be glad of the discovery.

Submarine Verses are:

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Who's arm has bound the restless wave.
Who bids the mighty ocean deep,
It's own appointed limits keep.
Dear Lord, we lift our prayer to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.

Lord God, our power ever more,
Whose arm doth reach the ocean floor,
Dive with our men beneath the sea;
Traverse the depths protectively.
O hear us when we pray and keep,
Them safe from peril in the deep.

Lord, guard and guide the men who man
The submarines that guard our land.
Be with them always night and day,
In quiet depths or roaring spray.
O hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea.

Bless those who serve beneath the deep,
Through lonely hours their vigil keep.
May peace their mission ever be,
Protect each one, we ask of Thee.
Bless those at home who wait and pray
For their return by night and day.

'Tis a beautiful hymn....
