Certainly the Montford Point Marines deserve, at least, an honorable mention. A large memorial to them is just up the road from me at Camp Lejuene. These days, every OCS candidate does the Montford Point run, an event to commemorate their training and service. http://www.blackpast.org/aah/montford-point-marines-1942-1945
