Green Check Good, Green Check Bad

Agree - define 'tanked.' One C amidst Bs and As isn't necessarily the end.

Will not list grades to protect identity, but lets just say there were plenty of Cs in AP and DE courses. I believe that service academy and college apps and essays, playing varsity sports, and being in the school play wiped her out. Thank the good Lord for Early Action Admissions!

Oh no! Maybe not as bad as you think?
What is a DE course?

She's not going to withdraw app yet, but has talked about it. Saves taxpayers some dollars :)

One thing for sure is our kids are under tremendous pressure and anxiety (not like when I was growing up in the 80's).
My kid got an average of only 3hrs/day at the peak of school year.
But the rewards will all come at a later time.
It's tough growing up nowadays.
God bless our kids! 🙏

Just an observations, but you list DD2 as USCGA Class of 2024. Am I reading this correct as she received an appointment conditional on her 7th semester grades? If that is the case, she may be fine as long as she does better final semester. Most academies understand a minor glitch and as long as she gets it together, they may not rescind her appointment. Here's hoping for the best! Have her call her AO. :)

I would not withdraw the application if dd wants to go to West Point. Does she have a nomination? Is she interested or willing to go to prep school? With her current application she may get offered an appointment, an offer of usmaps or possibly an aog scholarship. If none of those are offered she could go to a outside prep school without a scholarship or attend a college with rotc and reapply. My dd did self prep at NWP followed by a semester at local college while reapplying and made some amazing friends and was accepted the following year. It’s just a year but what an advantage it gives them to have a group of friends going in and a year of maturity to boot!

Gosh I feel bad for mom, dad and DD! I’m with above advice to not do anything drastic. Let the SA decide they don’t want her this cycle. Or maybe they do. Let them choose.

Your DD has learned lessons from this about herself. Better the lesson be learned in the safety of her home, than while away from her support systems at college. There is good news and value in this story!

And a couple years down the road, this will be but a story on her journey of where she is.

Hang in there!! Don’t give up!! It will allllll work out!!

How long did it take your DD’s transcript to pass “pending review.”

Also, if DD took AP classes on top of her sports, maybe West Point would understand the grade changes?

Wow- I doubt that the results are as catastrophic as you think. Your story makes my DS' high school finally make some sense to me. He played football this past fall while juggling SA and other college admissions. However, his high school in on a block system where they only have 4 classes per day for 2 hours per class. This allows them to finish a full year class in a semester. This also requires that any AP classes are taken 2nd semester as AP tests are at the end of the year. He had a dual enrollment class first semester, but no AP classes. He just started his senior year APs. He got super lucky that the schedule worked out in his favor for the application process.

Thanks everyone for the advice. We are kind of in shock over her grades. She was a 4.0 student then hit a brick wall. Just trying to sort through the fallout of whether the few admissions decisions she has will be rescinded.

Pretty common scenario. They recognize that. Good idea keep the application in place. Even if it doesn't work out this year, it might pay off to
re-apply.

Best of luck!

I really feel for your DD. As a young person I'm sure this feels like a mountain tumbling down on her. It is good that she has you as parents to remind her that she needs to have grace for herself, and that all is far from lost. It's so hard to see that when you are young and in the middle of it! She has accomplished far too much to believe that her path will be anything short of great! I was a DD once, who messed up more than once, and can say that she needs your steadfast belief that everything truly is going to be OK.

We've watched the same thing potentially happening with our DS (who has been also admitted to USCGA, but is waiting on USMA) this semester. Between the GF, the demands of 4 AP's, going to the gym, his buddies, his school and outside orchestra, yada, yada, yada, we thought there was huge potential for a crash in grades. Wife and I had made him a deal NOT to look in the HS parent's portal for the entire Senior year (and we've stuck to that, so far). So, were now waiting for him to "come clean" with his grades - which should be finalized today. Based upon what I've observed...I can't imagine he's done as well as he should have.

Conclusion: GOOD kids...TOUGH situations.
