Green Check Good, Green Check Bad

I am so sorry that your daughter, and the family, is going through this stress. It is real and unfortunately it seems like the consequences can be out of proportion to the grade drops. My child had a drop first marking period, and I imagine it is the norm instead of the exception. Like everyone on here the pressures and demands exceed the number of hours in a day. All EA applications for colleges, additional scholarship applications and the dozens of essays, all of the separate work for the SA and ROTC (so much extra work when including all of the essays for MOC applications), higher level AP courses with all of the reading/writing, leadership positions in EC and leadership in fall sports combine to overwhelm them.

In our case the GF had to take a back seat. Luckily she is a senior and had her own deadlines so that helped. The ECs are year round and require so much time so there is no outside job in our case to compete, but if there were that would be next to go. Traveling for EC and sports and traveling for interviews (colleges and MOC) put additional time pressures. We are happy he was finished with testing as there were no weekends where he would have been available. I am hoping that the selection team understands this. There are trade offs and time is limited. Your daughter sounds like a superstar. Fingers crossed for mercy and understanding in those decisions.

AND SENIORITIS!!! It’s a REAL thing!
Fortunately/Unfortunately there is no time for senioritis around here. I just don't see it in my child or their friends (or with our older child) - and it sort of makes me sad. There seems to be so little time to enjoy life and they are all jockeying and preparing for their next position/mission. I wish they would take their foot off of the gas a little and take time to actually live in this moment of their life. Maybe after the acceptances are all in and hopefully a BFE arrives in our house, these kids will exhale and take some time to just be 18.

Exactly. Well summarized.

We think she is. She's got opportunities, and for that we are extremely grateful. Having a bad semester puts the pressure on for the final semester, when I was hoping she could relax a bit.

"Pressure", that's the word...we've all had quite enough of that! Just Googled the antonym of pressure - comfort, decompression and ease.
That's what I'm looking forward to.

These posts hit home for all of us. There is an enormous amount of pressure as these kids work toward their goals. There are no easy paths. That remains the case at WP. I suppose if it were otherwise our Army would not be what it is. I’m grateful our kids are this strong. My best to you and your daughter as she continues to go after her goals regardless whether she gets detoured. She sounds like a star and it’s pretty obvious with your family’s support, she will get where she wants.

Don’t withdraw the application!

The great thing is she has at least 1 full appointment already!

Content mastery issue, or just a bit more difficult schedule this year? I suspect the latter. Consistency trumps perfection, and she has been consistent 6/7 semesters! And at the same time, 7/7 in everything else!!

Yes, trying not to have this rescinded when final grades are due.

Not enough hours in the day between advanced classes, play practice, sports, CAP, applications, interviews, SAT/ACT, etc.
