My family and I just returned home from Annapolis where we had the honor of attending last night's performance of Handel's Messiah in the USNA Chapel. It was the first time we had the privilege and to say that it was amazing would be an understatement. The Men's and Women's Glee clubs were so impressive, not to mention the symphony and the soloists. :thumb: Hoping it won't be our last time, and with much luck, perhaps our DD will be performing in it next year! Was anyone else there?

Yes your right, they sound beautiful. If I am not mistaken they should be singing, at the game this Saturday. You should hear the gospel choir, they are just as beautiful. We have a family friend, who son is at the Academy, who in the gospel choir, just beautiful.

A tradition in our family to attend, after dinner in downtown. Add in one of these elements - snowflakes drifting down, or a clear cold starry night, or a huge moon over the Bay highlighting the chop on the Severn River - and it's classic Annapolis.

Highly recommended for any family member during your mid's tenure. The Messiah tradition has been around since at least the 60's, not sure how far back it goes.

We used to go every year when we lived in MD. Didn't get to attend this year, which is sad because we actually know someone in it! (Our plebe is in Men's Glee Club.) DS said it was a great experience. The CNO and the CNP were in attendance. He got to meet the CNP and got his picture taken with him and with Captain Clark. (BTW, he said the CNP's wife is the nicest lady ever.) He's normally a pretty quite kid, but he was so excited when he called us Saturday night that he talked more than he has since he was born, I think!

Capt MJ, we also had dinner in Annapolis and walked around a while before the concert. What a beautiful night! We're already planning on doing it again next year.

MomoftheMagik, tell your son GREAT JOB!!! :thumb:

This was DD's third performance in Messiah, but my first time (and second - made it to both shows!) in attendance. The entire performance was first-rate, from the soloists to the chamber orchestra, and of course, the USNA glee club!

I don't mean to be ignorant or offensive to anyone, but what was up with the Officer (Chaplain?) with the Santa Claus yamaca? We found that very perplexing.

That is kind of funny. COEXIST comes to mind. Or, he really is trying to make everyone happy ( people-pleaser). Or he really likes the best elements of the season from all faiths and cultures and enjoys it to the fullest. :thumb:

He is a Jewish chaplain at USNA. What's wrong with him wearing a festive yamaca? Many people who are not Christian acknowledge the spirit of giving that accompanies this season.

Son says the Jewish Chaplain is the "coolest" Chaplain on the Yard! (Even though we aren't Jewish)
