Handy Links for Appointees & Parents

SELECTIVE SERVICE
If you are male and have already turned 18 or will turn 18 soon, you must register with Selective Service.
Here is the government link: https://www.sss.gov/register/

It does not matter that you are entering a Service Academy. You are still required by law to "register for the draft", as we used to say.

Our parents club in AZ has been awesome so far. Had a zoom meeting Saturday and am now registered with them. Great resource!

TSA PRE-CHECK FOR MIDSHPMEN

The DOD Number can be found on their Common Access Card (CAC). Ensure the CAC name, airline profile, ticket name are the same.

PERMIT TO REPORT PACKAGE (virtual)
USNA Class of 2024

And bookmark this for future reference. Sure do hope all this info is needed....Annapolis has missed the masses, I believe!

Flight advice
1. Always book one way tickets, even if it’s for the same occasion like Thanksgiving break. It’s just easier to change a single flight than cancel and rebook and if you fly Southwest and by on sale then sometimes you mess up the other leg. Ask me how I know.
2. Have your mid make frequent flier accounts that you can get into to help with their info and passwords. Plebe year is hard for them to find extra time to negotiate the booking systems.
3. Get your mid’s CAC number and add into the airline’s system with a live person. You want to make sure that mid’s profile and reservations have that number. Easier for TSA precheck and no hassle. You can call airlines and add after the fact.
4. Review the time needed to get to the airport and through the airport. Despite having traveled many times, mid wasn’t really cognizant of just how much time to leave for traffic, check in and security. The first trip home was saved by roommate’s mom who miraculously caught wind of the lackadaisical approach and got mid to airport in the nick of time, sacrificing her Thanksgiving prep!
5. Your mid is my mid.
