Time to update for this year!

Be sure to browse previous winter and spring threads in the USNA forum - the same questions come up several times a year, every year.

*** Be sure to check the small hamburger menus in upper corners of USNA links for expanded info. ***

Class of 2028 info is still there, worth browsing. This will get updated for ‘29, usually in May. Much does not change from year to year. Pay attention to the Permit to Report (PTR), PTR Checklist, Parents Guide. Browse the hamburger menus.

Thanks for creating this thread Capt MJ! I see that you need at least an 80% to validate, but what would the time be? Also is this document outdated? I saw on the USNA website that plebes do Boxing / Wrestling fall semester and swim spring semester.
Things shift and get tweaked all the time, and sometimes official docs lag. I use the most up-to-date reference I can find.

You can take the initiative and call the Physical Education Dept in the phone directory link I will post. Just introduce yourself as an incoming member of Class of 2029 and you want to work on validating plebe swim. Great opportunity to exercise your professional phone skills and report back here for the benefit of your classmates.

It's like a 3:40-3:48 200m to validate. Also this year plebes took swim fall semester and personal conditioning spring semester.
Def work on swimming, I wish I did my senior year. The amount of people I saw during PS that couldn't swim surprised me. I understand not everyone has access to a pool but if you can, go to the pool. You're joining the Navy and Marine Corps, two water centric services, you should be comfortable in the water. And swimming is just a good life skill to have. I had terrible freestyle form coming into the Academy but after like a month of working at it in the pool I was able to swim a like a 3:45. Also work on treading. It's not something that you'll do over PS but if you can tread water and swim well it will pay huge dividends during all four years here and open up a lot of amazing summer training and career opportunities.

You'll have treading and swimming in Khakis during a later year.

And if you do any Spec Warfare screeners you'll be treading water with arms out, and hypoxic swims from wall to wall.

I am wondering about the dates for family weekend. I know it is 6 weeks after I-Day but I am trying to book a place to stay and want to make sure I have the correct timeframe. On which day would we first expect to see our Plebes?
Thank you so much in advance.

That's how I feel when I see my friends at civilian schools. The grass is always greener on the other side

suppose there are perks to an SEC school...

however I would rather my suffering be magnified 10x and be given the glorious purpose of being at the Naval Academy

Are the mids allowed to leave campus during this weekend? I'm assuming they must sleep on campus, but is there leave into town, etc?
In past years, they have been allowed to leave on Friday between 1215p and 10p and Saturday usually it's 930a and 10pm. Sunday: 8am to 6pm. They have to go back to Bancroft (the dorms) to sleep on both friday and Saturday nights.

Yes, town liberty = 35 miles radius from chapel dome. Have to be back by designated time.

Typically released in the afternoon on Friday, back by 2359 (11:59 PM). Saturday, released after noon formation, back by 2359. Released at 0800 Sunday, back by 1759 (5:59 PM). Times are rough estimate based on my kid's PPW. Your mileage may vary.

No civvies, no drinking, no driving, no overnights. And PS isn't over. They still have another week and then reform.

Immunizations hack.

While waiting for the Class of 2029 Permit To Report to populate at the USNA.edu “Plebe Summer Home” page, you can still take a look at the info brochure for the current NAPS Class of 2025, which is still up.

Incoming direct admit NAPSters have enlisted status, so need to be ready to go, vaccination-wise. Buried in this brochure are their expected vaccinations. Worth taking a look at.

Now, clearly things may change year to year, but most won’t.

Here’s the current NAPS class info booklet they used to prepare when they started in summer of 2024. Use it as a “likely” guide.

Click on Student Information Guide, keep scanning until you find the immunization section.
