HAPPY 240TH BIRTHDAY TO ALL OF MY FELLOW MARINES!

Happy Birthday. Semper Fi. Although I was AF Daughter and son in Law are Marines. No one celebrates the AF birthday.

Marines are my favorite pesky brothers and sisters. I deployed on cruise on a commissioned ship; they went for a "float on the boat." The Navy-Marine Corps family relationship is quirky and wonderful, and I was glad to be part of it.
Happy Birthday, Devil Dawgs!

As my Daughter has indicated in the past, how come every gift at a Marine Corps Ball has something to do with alcohol? Even in Beijing at the Embassy. They are pesky though.

It is only fitting given our history. The Marine Corps started in Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, PA on November 10, 1775.

I always enjoy the Commandant's annual message, and the ritual that goes with the viewing of the video, the cutting of the cake by oldest and youngest Marines present. Enjoy!

Tun Tavern explains it all. Tun Tavern at USMC Museum is a great place to have lunch and a great place to spend the day although the cafeteria is a lot cheaper. Loved the video. Semper FI. Proud parent of a USMC Captain and a father in law of a USMC aviator.

I'll never forget a Gunny Sgt telling me at Quantico Marine Corps Birthday Ball in 1984, as he lit a cigarette after his umptenth whiskey sour, that on this day in 1968 he was charged with four counts of premeditated murder and sent to "LBJ" (Long Binh Jail) in South Vietnam to await court martial. He then laughed and walked away and I never found out what he was talking about. Obviously he wasn't convicted, but I've always wondered what was the rest of the story. He frightened the hell out of me, though, so I never asked.
