Happy Birthday Coast Guard

Is this from an ad? They scrubbed the Coast Guard emblem and name.
As I recall the rules from my corporate time, if an image of an actual person in uniform or actual in-service equipment was used, names, insignia, etc., have to be blurred out or the photo taken in a way you couldn’t see it. I think I did take it from a Happy Birthday message from one of “the usual suspects” who serve the military. I should have gone to CG sources for available pics. That’s unmistakably CG though!

For our history buffs, from the Coast Guard archives.
Here’s the text that goes with photo below:

Argo, WPC-100 From the collection of Argo's CO in 1945, LTJG Eliot Winslow. Photo was taken by LTJG Winslow and remained part of his personal collection. His hand-written caption reads: "Heavy Seas: While awaiting the surrender of the German U-boats, the ARGO rode out a 65 m.p.h. blow. This picture looking aft shows the life boat normally 16 feet above the water, rolling into a heavy sea, most of which broke over the side of the ship. This roll was 41 [degrees] the maximum roll ever recorded was 62 [degrees] in a hurricane, when the life raft seen in the top of the picture was half submerged. So much green water poured down the stack the fires in the galley range and boile[r] were extinguished. We had more Christians aboard after the storm than when we sailed." We got home today to a nice Adm. Schultz coin in the mail (and a CG Foundation coin). It's hard to get coins once you're out. Adm. Schultz's coin is a beast.

Jealous! I had the honor of briefing him fairly regularly when he was LANTAREA Commander, an incredible leader who really takes the time to know his people. Frankly, it's an incredible opportunity to serve under his leadership as Commandant.

We were in the same directorate when he was a captain and then he was in charge of the directorate when he made flag. Those were in the mustache days. I had just reached out and received Adm. Thad Allen's coin a couple of weeks before (I had missed out when he came by the office 10 years ago and I was at the oil spill). Allen's coin is nice and clean and simple. Schultz's coin is huge. I had to stick a small piece of wood in my coins holder so it would stand up straight.
