2018 is coming to a close, and many things have happened, both in the world, in our military, at the Service Academies, in ROTC units, in OCS/OTS/PLC classes, and on this forum. If you wish, reply with important moments this year that happened in the military, at the Academies, in your/your DD/DS's ROTC unit, or in your/your DD/DS's OCS/OTS/PLC class, or just on this forum.

Current list:
me and many other members joined
AROTC-dad joined the moderator team
NavyHoops was designated a super moderator
The majority of the C/O 2022 reported to the academies for summer training
West Point updated their website
Secretary of Defense James Mattis resigned
President Trump decided to pull troops out of Syria

I'll try to do something like they do on the C/O 20xx forums and make a list

Marking the passing of Senator John McCain, finally at rest beside his good friend ADM Chuck Larson, on the hill at USNA. That struck me, more than anything. I’m reading “The Restless Wave” right now. An imperfect man, but I can’t fault his commitment to service.

Watching the full-on events for President George H.W. Bush.

Attending the changes of command, wingings and promotions for USNA alumni sponsor sons and daughters. Watching my husband hand his pair of 14k gold wings to one going to command of a squadron.

Being pleased, reassured and impressed that despite occasionally naive questions and lack of research, each year there are those here on SAF who aspire to service and are willing to work for the opportunity of a commission.

I’m resolved to spend more time with the veteran non-profit I support.

Happy New Year!

Don’t forget this story used by James Patterson in one of his books:
“Imagine life is a game in which you are juggling five balls. The balls are called work, family, health, friends, and integrity. And you're keeping all of them in the air. But one day you finally come to understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. The other four balls...are made of glass. If you drop one of these, it will be irrevocably scuffed, nicked, perhaps even shattered.”

I don't know if this counts, but the United States and North Korea Summit? The Pentagon drafted plans to pull troops out of Afganistan, and I joined!
