Has anyone gotten a NROTC scholarship lately?

NROTC Declined also

Son saw bad news today on status page. Knocked the wind from his sails. This after USNA declined him two weeks ago. He was 3Q and 3Nom there, NASS, ACT 29M-26V Captain football and wrestling, etc. I think a hindrance was lack of other leadership besides sports, could have done more community service, did not get app in as soon as he could. Plus he was from a small HS. Still he was accepted at (#1) U. San Diego, (#2) U. North Florida-JAX and (#3) Iowa State (we live in Kansas City). #1 and #3 also offered merit scholarships but U.SD. is a huge tuition.
Any suggestions for Plan C ? Worry that he may just go enlist tomorrow and move on - promised me he wouldn't. After seeing the Blue Angels this weekend and visiting with some academy grads & parents - he seemed liked he'd repply for the academy. I know USNA letter said to do core classes at a 4-yr college, but knowing him as I do he might benefit from the rigors and discipline of a focused Prep program without the "distractions" of a normal campus.
Plus the PT regimen. One plan would be to get some pre-calc and english in a CC this summer and head for ISU or KU to get in his core Calc, Chem, Engl and History - shoot for his original USNA goal, option to do college program there, re-apply for ROTC as well. Sorry to be so windy, any advice welcomed....

When you read threads it seems that a lot of kids have been successful the second time around. Some have been grateful for the extra year. Sounds like reapplying would be a good idea.

My son is in the same boat. Principal alternate nom, 3Q'd, lots of ECs. Didn't get appointment. Applied for NROTC scholarship (Tier 3). Didn't get that either. Got accepted to UC Berkeley and UCLA (1st and 2nd choices). Will attend Berkeley, but decided not to do NROTC as a college programmer (this year) because he can't apply for the full scholarship if he does. Is reapplying to the Naval Academy and will focus on getting those A's in Calculus, Chem, English and History (see the posts on the Naval Academy "sticky" under "Reapplying.") Good luck to your son. As a retired Naval Officer/friend told him, "enjoy this year at college, get the grades, and reapply--this year at college will help you realize the extent of your desire to attend the Academy." Good advice.

Bad News Yesterday.

Well we also received the news that our DD did not receive the NROTC scholarship (nursing option) yesterday on the status page. At least the wait is over, and she will be attending BYU. She has some comfort knowing that she was offered an instant scholarship decision (ISD) when she interviewed if she changed her major to a tier 1 or tier2. Her choice was nursing and to wait it out. I have comfort in knowing that we have so many wonderful young men and women who are interested in serving their country. This message board was great while we waited. Good luck to everyone.

I'm so sorry everyone. :frown: I know my daughter was devastated when she found out she didn't get NROTC scholarship. She's planning to use the AROTC scholarship but as of today the school is still up in the air. I'm so ready for this all to be over!!

Apply to the Texas A&M Galveston Maritime Academy and join the corps of cadets there. He will get in state tuition and a good education and will have another shot for nrotc later
