Just curious if anyone has received an LOA yet for the class of 2019.

I didn't know the board meets this early... Do they?

The early review board meets on September 1st, so I do not think any LOA's would be going out anytime soon.

Do all portions of the application (with the exception of CFA & DODMerb) need to be in before the board starts to consider candidates? My son is still waiting for the teacher recs to go in, but has had his BGO interview (even though it's not showing up yet), his Candidate activities reports, transcripts, test scores, etc. What merits early consideration?

DODmerb is completely separate from the Admissions board review. For the board to view package, it must be 100% complete and fro your post, it is a long way from being complete.

His application now is completely finished with the exception of his CFA which he is planning on completing in the next 2 weeks. He received an email from his admissions counselor today asking when that would be done. Any thoughts on how to interpret this?

I would interpret it that the admissions counselor wants to know when his CFA will be done. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I would interpret it as "get it done." They are in process of reviewing for LOAs and as many found out last year, there was an "early" decision date for those who were 100% complete by October then received a nomination. My DS was fortunate in that our MOC turned the slate in immediately (Nov after interviews) and he received his appointment for Christmas. Admissions counselor are very busy and don't often ask for anything. DS's wanted his dual enrollment transcript overnighted in October. There's always a reason they ask for something. I suggest giving it to them soon if you can perform at top rate. JMHO

My DS's LOA for class of 2018 was dated August 14th... so no it is not too early.

LOAs can be sent prior to first review board meeting. My son's was dated August 29 for class of '17. My understanding is that they will review completed applications early. Some candidates will receive LOAs, others will go into general pool for consideration.

I was told at the CVW that the first board met on September 4th, so it is not to early anymore.

My DD got an LOA last week dated August 29. Her file is not complete yet. They have her initial info, transcript and test scores. This whole process is still so overwhelming. Is an LOA really what it seems as long as everything else is done and she passes CFA and medical?

Don't forget a nom is needed too.

Congrats!!! I'm sure many would like to here about your DD's resume. Recruited athlete? SAT/ACTs? GPA? Course Load? Extra-curriculars? NASS?

Yes, it may be meaningless to do side by side comparisons, but let's just call it curiosity.

Again, congrats to your DD!

To echo the above poster, yes, at least some have.

However, please remember three things.

1. This is VERY early in the process -- LOAs can go out as late as January.

2. MOST appointees will NOT receive LOAs. Not receiving an LOA is not an indication that you aren't competitive and/or won't receive an appointment.

3. LOA candidates must obtain a nom (and be o/w qualified). In years past, I've had candidates with LOAs and no nom and they get TWEs. Those who receive LOAs should NOT assume USNA will "find" them one.

First- my apologies- first time poster and didn't realize this was a USNA thread. LOA for DD was for USMA. At any rate she is not a recruited athlete, though has played varsity volleyball & softball since freshman year ( went to USMA ball camp this summer but their roster is full). Captain of both teams this year, SATs math-740, reading-650, writing -690. ACT 31. Weighted GPA 4.53. Student government, relay for life, special Olympics coach and volunteer, 5 AP classes this year( physics, bio, calc, Spanish, English.) wants engineering. Was awarded the Dwight D Eisenhower leadership award last spring from the West Point Society of NJ. She has her dodmerb physical tomorrow. Still all very surreal as it wasn't until she went up in April to receive award that she absolutely knew this was where she wanted to be. Good luck to all. And thank you for this forum- I have found it so helpful thus far

DD's LOA came in mail today. It is date stamped on the 18th of Sept.

As posted for the last poster to announce an LOA:
