Recently, I've read about some disturbing incidents of hazing. Some of it just harsh, but some of it absolutely demented and I'm not sure who would want their DS or DD exposed to this. Does anyone have any knowledge of this?

Where are you reading this? We have a cadet there now and know cadets in all the other current classes. We also know recent and past graduates and not one has ever said there is hazing at USCGA!

You'll have to be more specific about what you mean by hazing. That word is often used yet rarely applied appropriately. This questions pops up every so often on this forum, and it is normally due to a misunderstanding about training, the way in which training is conducted, or stories of SAs from decades ago that would now meet the definition of hazing. I can tell you I never felt hazed during my time at USCGA nor did I ever feel singled-out, humiliated, or made to suffer.

The OP posted this over 8 hours ago and hasn’t returned;they tossed the dead rat over the transom and kept going. (Vintage Pentagon term before the days of AC, and doors had transoms overhead to facilitate airflow. Dropping a hot topic on a desk and disappearing is accomplished electronically these days.)

Service Academies have such high profiles that any substantiated allegations of misconduct soon find their way to major news outlets. I haven’t seen any recent stories.

We may have a troll situation or passageway hearsay. Time will tell.

There have always been a few bad apples at the SAs. Hazing in the most traditional sense is no longer tolerated, which doesn’t mean that someone’s DS or DD hasn’t taken something too far in the mistaken belief that it’s the right thing to do.

I believe USCGA culture, both staff and cadets themselves, is not one that tolerates bona fide hazing.

This is good news. Thank you. I meant that I heard of this recently, not that there were recent allegations.

I think people would still be interested in the source you read, since you mentioned that in your first post.
It makes a big difference if the account of the hazing is an historical one or a recent report.

Hazing is not tolerated at any of the SMC nor the Federal schools.

That said these are young leaders and young leaders make mistakes and poor choices. Sometimes they learn hard lessons about the consequences of poor choices

Come on, adult bullying is acceptable, labor unions do it everyday :). The academy does something about it, that’s the beauty of the academies :)

It couldn't possibly be what you posted. The original poster wrote:

"Recently, I've read about some disturbing incidents of hazing. Some of it just harsh, but some of it absolutely demented and I'm not sure who would want their DS or DD exposed to this. Does anyone have any knowledge of this?"

This still sounds like trolling, or a spurned lover soiling the bed. To the OP, please provide links to the "absolutely demented hazing" you refer to.

As an agust citadel alumni I volunteer to offer an opinion on whether said hazing simply hazing, demented hazing or absolutely demented hazing ...

I mean everyone assumes we're a giant hazefest anyways ....

I admit to having fleeting thoughts of Orange Dementors roaming CG cadet passageways.

That's a pretty low standard for hazing, but you must have been so perfect that they could never find a reason to be singled out. Each of those things certainly happened to me my freshman year.
